COLLINGWOOD president Eddie McGuire has guaranteed that the Magpies would never do the wrong thing by Nathan Buckley as he confirmed no decision would be made on the former club great's coaching future until season's end.
Having returned from overseas on Thursday after a week of speculation about Buckley's job following the 37-point loss to Essendon, McGuire told Fox Footy no decision would be made until after the club review was complete.
He described speculation on Buckley's future as hysterical and reaffirmed the message club CEO Gary Pert gave to the players before training on Tuesday morning.
"There will be no announcement, no move, one way or the other on Nathan Buckley until the end of Collingwood's season," McGuire said.
He said the remaining seven games of the season would inform the decision on the way forward for the Magpies as they looked for answers for a fourth successive season outside the finals.
"He [Buckley] will get every chance to achieve what he wants to achieve for the club and decisions will be made at the end of the year and the end of Nathan's contract," McGuire said.
Buckley has coached the club since 2012 but Collingwood has not played finals since 2013.
A former great of the club as a player, he was installed into the job after McGuire developed a coaching succession plan that saw Buckley take over from Mick Malthouse after working alongside him as an assistant for two seasons in 2010 and 2011.
McGuire said everyone knew the character of Buckley and that the coach trusted the club's decision makers.
"[He] would never do the wrong thing by Collingwood and we won't do the wrong thing by him," McGuire said.
