ST KILDA wingman Jack Newnes will continue his career at Carlton after informing the Saints of his desire to move as a delisted free agent.  

As revealed by AFL.com.au last week, the Blues had long been courting the 26-year-old who went through the October free-agency window without finding a new home.

After knocking back a two-year deal to stay at Moorabbin, Newnes will find his way to Ikon Park when the delisted free agency period opens on November 1.  

Newnes was officially delisted by the Saints on Friday.  

"We did present Jack a with a contract offer and have been in regular discussion with him and his manager over the past month," Saints list boss James Gallagher said.    

 

"In the end, Jack has decided the time is right for a fresh start and we have agreed to delist him. This will allow him the opportunity to join another club as a delisted free agent.

"Jack has been an integral part of the Saints for the past eight years.  

"His character, durability, willingness to play different roles and commitment to driving the standards off the track saw him elevated to the club's leadership group between 2017-2018.

"He is a life member of the club, highly regarded by his teammates and coaches, and we wish him all the best for the future."  

Newnes held the AFL's longest active streak for consecutive games played up to round 14 this year, dropped after his 123rd straight match.

Left out of the leadership group for the 2019 season, Newnes played a variety of roles during the season under then-coach Alan Richardson.  

The Blues have been looking for extra wing depth, meeting with Richmond's Brandon Ellis early in the season before their interest cooled, while they were beaten by Essendon in the race for Brisbane's Tom Cutler.
