BRENT Harvey won't get to make the call on whether he plays on in 2017, North Melbourne coach Brad Scott says.
Harvey, 38, has established himself as one of North's greatest players over the past 21 seasons, and in round 19 this season became the VFL/AFL games record holder (now 429 matches).
Harvey is keen to play on next season despite calls from club greats Wayne Carey and Wayne Schwass on Triple M radio last Sunday that he should retire at the end of this season.
Scott told reporters on Wednesday that while Carey and Schwass were entitled to their views, he and Harvey would continue to talk about the five-time club best and fairest winner's future.
Asked whether Harvey would be given the choice to play on, Scott made it clear the club would be making that decision.
"I don't think anyone is given that choice. You look at players at any club over a period of time," the Roos coach said.
"I understand the questions are going to come about 'Boomer' and our senior players, but other than today I'm not going to talk about it from herein on.
"I'll talk about it when we've got something to tell you."
North has a scheduled board meeting on Wednesday night, but Scott says the futures of Harvey and other out-of-contract Roo veterans such as Drew Petrie, Jarrad Waite, Michael Firrito and Nick Dal Santo won't be a topic of discussion.
"A media manager told me apparently there's a board meeting to decide [Harvey's] future tonight," Scott said.
"I can tell you that's absolutely not true. We do have a board meeting but senior players' futures aren't on the agenda.
"We've got a focus on the next two games of the home and away season and hopefully a finals series.
"We'll address all of those issues when we need to, but it's not right now."
