GEELONG has ruled out young forward Cory Gregson for the rest of the season after he was diagnosed with a stress fracture in his foot.
The 19-year-old had played 29 games since making his debut in round one of his first season at the club in 2015, but did not play last week after travelling to Perth as the carry-over emergency.
Cats' football manager Steve Hocking said that scans revealed the issue after Gregson reported pain over the weekend.
"Cory suffered slight pain that progressed and he was immediately sent for scans," Hocking said.
"The scans revealed the stress fracture. Normally the recovery period for an injury like this is 8-10 weeks."
Gregson played 20 games in his first season but has played just nine this year, finding it difficult to cement a spot in the team.
