GOLD Coast is comfortable delaying negotiations with out-of-contract stars Jaeger O'Meara and Dion Prestia, confident that the pair sees a bright future for themselves at Metricon Stadium.

O'Meara (ruptured patella tendon) and Prestia (knee) are returning from injuries that derailed their 2015 seasons and have both told the Suns they want to focus on returning to full fitness and form before discussing their post-2016 futures.

O'Meara has been widely linked with a move to Victoria at the end of this season, speculation that has been fuelled by the fact the 2014 NAB AFL Rising Star winner owns an apartment in Melbourne and his girlfriend is living there.

But Gold Coast coach Rodney Eade told AFL.com.au on Friday the Suns' early talks with O'Meara had been positive.

"Jaeger is a good young lad. He's said he doesn't want to talk at all until he's back playing and starting to get confidence in his body again," Eade said.

"Talking to him, the early indications are that things are in a good spot. We're certainly comfortable with where it's at.

"He's a very loyal guy, he's a very honest guy. There's no doubt that he would let us know (if he wanted to go).

"He's keen to be in the leadership group, which he's in, so the early indications are that he's comfortable now with the structures that we've put around the club in respect of a whole range of things like the coaching group, support (networks), high performance and the way we're going culture wise."

Prestia, who was recruited from TAC Cup team Calder Cannons with pick No.9 in the 2010 NAB AFL Draft, was reportedly targeted by the Demons in last October's trade period, and would appeal to any Victorian club looking to bolster its midfield.

However, Eade was also confident that the Victorian saw a bright future for himself with the Suns.

"Dion is in a good spot too. He was a bit frustrated at times with his knee because he got a big infection with it, but he's now training really well," Eade said.

"He again doesn't want to talk until mid-season, so we'll respect that.

"He was more than happy to put his hand up to be a vice-captain and we've made him a vice-captain. Knowing Dion, he wouldn't do that if he had intentions of leaving.

"That doesn't mean that he won't leave, but again indications are that he likes the place, he wants to be involved, so at this stage we're comfortable with it as well."

O'Meara's knee injury sidelined him for the entire 2015 season, with the recovery timeframe from a ruptured patella tendon similar to that of a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.

Eade stressed the 22-year-old's comeback remained on track despite a recent arthroscope to trim a flap on his patella.

"He just had a small flap that was causing a little bit of pain. They could have left it but we're taking a long-term approach with him rather than short term," he said.

"He had a scan on his tendon and it's really strong, it's fantastic.

"We were thinking he would probably return in round two or three, he's now looking at probably round four or five. So it will delay things a week or two at max.

"We're not rushing at all. We're really thrilled and excited about where he's at at the moment."
