FEWER than 2000 tickets remain for Saturday's twilight preliminary final between Greater Western Sydney and the Western Bulldogs at Spotless Stadium after a frenzied morning of sales on Monday.

More than 8000 Bulldogs members snapped up tickets during the exclusive sales period, while about 6200 Giants members secured their seats, mostly in a two-hour rush from 9am.

Despite fears some of the Bulldogs' 40,000 members or the 16,000-strong Giants membership base would be locked out of the 24,000 capacity venue, there were about 4600 tickets made available to the general public after 1pm.

About 1800 remain unsold and the League hopes the historic clash will sell out by the middle of the week. 

The preliminary final venue had been a point of contention after the AFL trusted in historical figures for travelling supporters and scheduled the game at the Giants' Spotless Stadium home ground, rather than the much larger ANZ Stadium. 

The League made the decision on the basis that a maximum of 8000 people usually travel to watch their clubs play finals interstate. 

AFL general manager, club and AFL operations Travis Auld said the League was pleased all Giants and Bulldogs members who had wanted to buy tickets were able to access them in the exclusive member sale period.

Unsold tickets remain available at face value – ranging from $65 to $179 for adults.

But some buyers have already tried to cash in via Ticketmaster's re-sale website with tickets going for up to $390 each.

Meanwhile, about 21,000 public tickets remain on sale for Geelong's preliminary final clash against the Sydney Swans at the MCG on Friday night.
