CARLTON captain Marc Murphy is out of Sunday's game against Geelong after spraining his right ankle in the first quarter.
Murphy started the game brightly and kicked the Blues' first goal but limped off at the nine-minute mark of the opening term and disappeared into the rooms.
Murphy appeared to roll his right ankle in a Patrick Dangerfield tackle.
Television showed him doing a fitness test in the dressing rooms midway through the second quarter, but shortly afterwards he removed his guernsey and boots.
Carlton tweeted at half-time that both Murphy and Liam Sumner, who came off with what appeared to be an ankle injury just four minutes later, would not return.
Sumner, who was traded from Greater Western Sydney in the off-season, reappeared on the bench and did a series of run-throughs along the boundary line just before quarter time.
The forward returned to the game for the start of the second term, but was then shown in the rooms later in the quarter, noticeably limping and with a huge ice pack on his ankle.
Highly-rated defender Jacob Weitering also came off late in the quarter after appearing to jar his knee in a marking contest.
Weitering took his place on the field at the start of the second quarter, suggesting his injury was not too serious.
