Adelaide

Draft selections 14, 50, 68, 86
Free agents Ricky Henderson (unrestricted), Scott Thompson (unrestricted).

How's the salary cap looking?
The re-signings this year of Daniel Talia, Josh Jenkins and Brad Crouch on long-term contracts won't leave the Crows with much room in the salary cap. Former skipper Nathan van Berlo has retired, while a decision about fellow veteran Scott Thompson is yet to be announced.

Who's definitely on the table?
No Crows have formally requested a trade while the club is in the finals.

Anyone else?
Melbourne have been linked to Scott Thompson for a playing and coaching role if he can't agree to terms with the Crows. Midfielder Jarryd Lyons is off contract and has attracted the interest of rival clubs as has defender/winger Ricky Henderson. Defender Kyle Cheney is also yet to re-commit. Mitch Grigg, Harry Dear and Harrison Wigg are other players coming out of contract. Cam Ellis-Yolmen, Riley Knight and Andy Otten are contracted for another year, but may look to be traded for more opportunities of senior football.

Who are they targeting?
The Crows have been pretty quiet while they are still involved in the finals. They were previously linked with Brisbane Lions skipper Tom Rockliff if he wanted a fresh start. But with their salary cap situation the way it is, the Crows may be limited in how many moves they can make. - Lee Gaskin

Brisbane

Draft selections: 2, 20, 24, 48, 56, 74
Free agents: Nil

How's the salary cap looking?
The Lions have some space, but not as much as you'd think. They signed a heap of their better players – Stefan Martin, Daniel Rich, Dayne Zorko and Pearce Hanley among them – to lucrative long-term deals earlier this year.

Who's definitely on the table?
After problems retaining players in recent years, this is one area that's been arrested – no player has specifically asked to be traded at the moment.

Anyone else?
Small forward Josh Green is believed to be exploring his options after a difficult season hampered by injury (foot) and poor form. Captain Tom Rockliff's name has been bandied around, with a reported nibble from Adelaide earlier in the year, but there's nothing concrete at this stage.

Who are they targeting?
Although not outwardly chasing names at this stage, the Lions are desperate for key defenders to bolster a weak part of the ground. Don't be surprised if they hunt the likes of Eric Mackenzie, Colin Garland, Lynden Dunn or even throw a lifeline to discarded Kangaroo Michael Firrito to help their youngsters for a season or two. - Michael Whiting

Carlton

Draft selections: 5, 23, 41, 48, 77
Free agents: Dennis Armfield (unrestricted), Kade Simpson (unrestricted)

How's the salary cap looking?
The Blues have considerable room in their salary cap, with the recent retirements of Michael Jamison and Andrew Walker combined with Chris Judd's from last year. Their only major re-signing this year has been star midfielder Patrick Cripps, who extended his contract until the end of 2019.

Who's definitely on the table?
No one officially as yet. Players completed their end-of-season interviews with coaches last week, so expect to hear more soon.

Anyone else?
The Blues still have several senior players out of contract, including Sam Rowe, Zach Tuohy and this season's leading goalkicker Matthew Wright. Rowe and Wright should be offered new deals, along with Blaine Boekhorst. Tuohy may be up for trade, while the fate of other uncontracted players such as Dylan Buckley, Andrejs Everitt and Nick Graham remains unknown.

Who are they targeting?
Players 22 and under. The Blues were interested in securing Ben Lennon, 21, at the end of last season and their interest should be rekindled now that he has requested a trade from Richmond. Key defender Caleb Marchbank, 20 in December, has requested a trade from the Giants to return to Victoria. List manager Stephen Silvagni knows his capabilities well, having recruited him to GWS, and he would fit in well alongside former teammate Lachie Plowman and Jacob Weitering. - Howard Kotton

Collingwood

Draft selections: 25, 43, 61, 79, 97
Free agents: Nathan Brown (restricted), Jarryd Blair (unrestricted)

How's the salary cap looking?
With veterans Dane Swan and Alan Toovey retired and Travis Cloke moving on, the Pies are building a war chest. Made a big but unsuccessful offer to Essendon defender Michael Hurley, so might well have enough bait to lure a big fish.

Who's definitely on the table?
Cloke has requested a trade and has been strongly linked to the Western Bulldogs.

Anyone else?
With Lachlan Keeffe set to return next season, defender Jack Frost's future might well depend on whether Brown stays or goes. Lean defender Adam Oxley might also seek opportunities elsewhere after spending the bulk of the second half of the year in the VFL.

Who are they targeting?
Bulldogs midfielder Lin Jong toured the Holden Centre mid-season and could well figure in any Cloke deal. The Pies were interested in Adelaide's Ricky Henderson when he came out of contract two years ago and they could again be keen to pick up the versatile defender, who is now 27 and an unrestricted free agent. - Ben Collins

Essendon

Draft selections 1, 19, 37, 55, 73, 91
Free agents Tayte Pears (unrestricted), Courtenay Dempsey (unrestricted)

How's the salary cap looking?
It's likely to be pretty tight with the lucrative contracts offered to the suspended players to return. Michael Hurley and Cale Hooker have signed long-term deals while Dyson Heppell is also tied to the club for several years on a strong deal.

Who's definitely on the table?
Michael Hibberd is the only member of Essendon's group of 12 suspended players who has requested a trade. He is expected to land at Melbourne via next month's trade period.

Anyone else?
It's likely the Bombers will cut several senior players after the club's VFL finals series is over. Players like Jackson Merrett might look for more opportunities despite being contracted, while Jayden Laverde has yet to sign a new deal and has clubs circling him. He is a must-sign for the Dons as they continue to rebuild.

Who are they targeting?
The Bombers are in the mix for Jaeger O'Meara, who has quit Gold Coast. They have also been linked to out-of-contract Western Bulldogs midfielder Koby Stevens. - Callum Twomey

Fremantle

Draft selections: 3, 39, 57, 75
Free agents: Zac Clarke (unrestricted), Matt de Boer (unrestricted), Clancee Pearce (unrestricted), Chris Mayne (unrestricted)

How's the salary cap looking?
The Dockers should have some room given the list turnover they are about to embark on. Matthew Pavlich is the only significant exit at this point but he wasn't on a major contract in his last year.

Who's definitely on the table?
Chris Mayne looks certain to be on the move via free agency while Hayden Ballantyne and Michael Barlow are definitively open to being traded.

Anyone else?
Zac Clarke is assessing all of his options as a free agent. Garrick Ibbotson, Nick Suban, Alex Silvagni, Matt de Boer, Clancee Pearce and Tendai Mzungu are also uncertain about their futures and would explore any options available.

Who are they targeting?
Bradley Hill and Cam McCarthy are the two known targets. McCarthy is a priority but the Dockers will also look to do a deal with Hawthorn for Hill. Jesse Hogan and Rory Lobb are of significant interest to Fremantle but both are contracted for next year and still haven't committed to a move home. - Alex Malcolm

Geelong

Draft selections: 35, 38, 53, 71, 87
Free agents: Jimmy Bartel (unrestricted), Corey Enright (unrestricted), Tom Lonergan (unrestricted)

How's the salary cap looking?
It's manageable although tight. The Cats' relief will be dependent on retirements and trades.

Who's definitely on the table?
Nathan Vardy is likely to be traded while contracted midfielders Jordan Murdoch, George Horlin-Smith and Billie Smedts could be open to a move if interest is out there.

Anyone else?
Shane Kersten remains unsigned despite a good season where he was a key part of the forward half until late. He should attract interest.

Who are they targeting?
Geelong would like to move higher into the draft, which would mean contemplating trading a quality player for good picks. A smart running defender would be of interest, as would key-position depth. - Peter Ryan

Gold Coast

Draft selections: 4, 9, 21, 22, 25, 28, 40, 58, 76
Free agents: Nil

How's the salary cap looking?
With Jaeger O'Meara and Dion Prestia wanting out, the Suns have a big hole in their cap and a nice chunk of cash to throw at potential targets.

Who's definitely on the table?
Apart from Prestia and O'Meara – which is a big enough hole in itself – no Sun has officially requested a trade.

Anyone else?
It's unlikely the Suns will look to actively shop players. Small forward Brandon Matera – whose name has previously come up – is contracted, was a regular contributor by season's end and would back himself to command a regular spot in 2017.

Who are they targeting?
The Suns have been quiet so far, but one commodity they will chase hard is midfielders – particularly in exchange for O'Meara, wherever he ends up. Port Adelaide's half-back Hamish Hartlett is 27 and might appeal. The Suns have a raft of draft picks to exchange and another experienced option would be ideal. - Michael Whiting

GWS

Draft selections: 7, 15, 17, 32, 33, 51, 69, 105
Free agents: Nil

How's the salary cap looking?
The Giants need to trim the list back and lose some money from the cap, so they'll be big players again in this year's trade period given there's plenty of talent running around in the NEAFL and they need to stockpile picks for their Academy players.

Who's definitely on the table?
Young defender Caleb Marchbank is the only Giant to officially ask to be traded, with Carlton his expected destination, but with both the senior and NEAFL teams in premiership contention that number will likely grow when each team bows out.

Anyone else?
Forward Will Hoskin-Elliott is contracted until the end of 2017 but has plenty of clubs interested, while midfielders Jack Steele and Jake Barrett, along with ruckman Tom Downie, are yet to re-sign beyond 2016, and might look for a change.

Who are they targeting?
The Giants already have enough talent on their list and are unlikely to go after any free agents, unless a big name nominates them as a preferred destination. - Adam Curley

There seems to be a fair bit of interest in Jack Steele's availability. Picture: AFL Photos

Hawthorn

Draft selections: 16, 34, 52, 70, 88, 106
Free agents: Brendan Whitecross (unrestricted)

How's the salary cap looking?
Manageable if you assume that the recently re-signed quartet Luke Hodge, Sam Mitchell, Shaun Burgoyne and Josh Gibson have all agreed to reduced contracts in their last year or two.

Who's definitely on the table?
Brad Hill is likely to formally seek a trade to Fremantle at the end of the season, to be reunited with his brother Stephen at home in Western Australia.

Anyone else?
The Hawks will wait until the end of the season, but players such as Angus Litherland, Dallas Willsmore and Zac Webster may seek opportunities elsewhere. Hawthorn has been a tough team to break into.

Who are they targeting?
Seemingly everyone, as Alastair Clarkson recently joked. Sydney Swans midfielder Tom Mitchell is a big chance to join the club next year, as is enigmatic Richmond forward Ty Vickery as a free agent, given Jonathon Ceglar will likely miss the year as he recovers from ACL surgery. And then there is Gold Coast gun Jaeger O'Meara. The Hawks will see how that plays out during the trade period and likely won't pay above the odds, but if they can sign him as well - and Hill will surely have to leave for that to happen - then their premiership window will continue to remain wide open. - Ashley Browne

Melbourne

Draft selections: 26, 44, 62, 80, 98
Free agents: Jack Grimes (restricted)

How's the salary cap looking?
The Demons are waiting to see whether Jesse Hogan will commit his long-term future to the club. Even still, they have made no secrets of their pursuit of an A-grade midfielder. The Dees missed out on Dion Prestia, but they certainly would've inquired about Jaeger O'Meara.

Who's definitely on the table?
Melbourne is waiting until its VFL affiliate, the Casey Scorpions' finals series is over before announcing list changes. Chris Dawes' future is unclear, while Jack Grimes will be another likely seeking a new home in 2017.

Anyone else?
Lynden Dunn and Colin Garland are contracted for next season, but had limited senior opportunities as Melbourne turned to youth in 2016. Their experience would be valued at another club.

Who are they targeting?
Defender Michael Hibberd is virtually over the line, having requested a trade from Essendon. The Demons are also reportedly in the market for a back-up ruckman to Max Gawn. Zac Clarke, Nathan Vardy or Jarrod Witts may have some appeal.
Ben Guthrie

North Melbourne

Draft selections: 11, 29, 65, 83
Free agents: Michael Firrito (unrestricted), Brent Harvey (unrestricted), Drew Petrie (unrestricted), Daniel Wells (unrestricted)

How's the salary cap looking?
The Roos should have plenty of space to land some talent after telling veterans Brent Harvey, Drew Petrie, Nick Dal Santo and Michael Firrito their time at Arden Street is up.

Who's definitely on the table?
Apart from the four veterans mentioned above, no Roos have officially requested a trade yet with the season still alive.

Anyone else?
Forgotten forward Aaron Black seems likely to leave the club after being starved of opportunities, although Majak Daw would appear more certain to stay after Petrie's forced departure. Daniel Wells still remains unsigned, while defender Lachie Hansen struggled for a game this year and might look elsewhere.

Who are they targeting?
The Roos are interested in Collingwood defender Nathan Brown, while they have also been linked to Fremantle's Chris Mayne. Port Adelaide half-back Hamish Hartlett was a target last off-season and might be on the radar again with the Power reportedly telling him he could be trade bait. However, the Roos might look to the draft as they regenerate their list. - Travis King

Port Adelaide

Draft selections 9, 45, 63, 81
Free agents Paul Stewart (unrestricted)

How's the salary cap looking?
The retirement of key defender Alipate Carlile with a year to run on his contract helps a little bit, but it's still tight at the Power. They have also delisted Jay Schulz, John Butcher, Kane Mitchell and Sam Colquhoun.

Who's definitely on the table?
Former No.4 draft pick Hamish Hartlett has been thrown up as possible trade bait despite only last year signing a five-year contract extension until 2021.

Anyone else?
Ruckman Matthew Lobbe was close to being traded last year, but his currency has decreased significantly. Defender Tom Jonas is off contract and would attract interest from rival clubs, while Brendon Ah Chee and Cam O'Shea also aren't signed for next year. Ah Chee and O'Shea might be keen to move for more opportunities of playing senior football. Angus Monfries – who was suspended this season after the Essendon supplements saga – is still unsigned, but the Power are confident he will return next year.

Who are they targeting?
The Power have been linked to out-of-favour North Melbourne forward Aaron Black, who hasn't played a game this year with the Kangaroos. Apart from that, the Power are keen to restock through the draft given their tight salary cap situation and won't go after any big names as they have in the past couple years. - Lee Gaskin

Richmond

Draft selections: 6, 42, 60, 78
Free agents: Ty Vickery (restricted)

How's the salary cap looking?
The Tigers have space to go after a big fish, as shown by their push to sign Adam Treloar last year. They have committed to Dion Prestia on a long-term deal. The retirement of Troy Chaplin and likely move of Ivan Maric, either to a new club or smaller contract, will free up space.

Who's definitely on the table?
Former first-round draft picks Reece Conca and Ben Lennon are looking for new homes. Vickery has received a strong offer from Hawthorn and could benefit from a fresh start.

Anyone else?
Ruckman Ivan Maric is out of contract and exploring a dual role as a ruck coach and back-up ruckman. Multiple clubs have held conversations with his management. Defender Jake Batchelor, forward Kane Lambert and midfielder Andrew Moore are still out of contract.

Who are they targeting?
As well as Prestia, the Tigers are targeting more draft picks. To do this they'll have to move on a big name, such as Brett Deledio or even Jack Riewoldt, who continues to be mentioned in trade talk despite his insistence he wants to stay. - Nathan Schmook

St Kilda

Draft selections: 10, 46, 64, 82, 100
Free agents: Sean Dempster (restricted), Sam Fisher (unrestricted)

How's the salary cap looking: Not having made the finals since 2011 has given the Saints time to prepare their war chest. They dipped into it to acquire Jake Carlisle last year, but there's plenty of room left.

Who's definitely on the table: No one has officially requested a trade.

Anyone else: Fisher wants to play on but the club will make a decision on him at the end of the trade period. Dempster told AFL.com.au he is reasonably confident about earning a new contract. Eli Templeton, Tom Lee, Brodie Murdoch and Cameron Shenton are also uncontracted.

Who are they targeting: St Kilda wants Jaeger O'Meara. He may have played just three NEAFL games in two years but the 22-year-old has huge potential. A couple of Greater Western Sydney players are on the Saints' radar – midfielder Jack Steele and defender Caleb Marchbank. – Dinny Navaratnam

Sydney Swans

Draft selections: 18, 35, 54, 90, 108
Free agents: Ted Richards (unrestricted)

How's the salary cap looking?
Most of the Swans' biggest names are signed up, apart from Tom Mitchell, so there's not an extravagant amount in the cap. This could change if Mitchell chooses to continue his career at another club.

Who's definitely on the table?
While he hasn't asked for a trade, Mitchell is being heavily linked with Hawthorn, and to a lesser extent Carlton, after putting off contract talks until after the season.

Anyone else?
Fringe player Dean Towers is also out of contract and has struggled to cement his spot in the senior side despite showing glimpses of outstanding talent. The utility could be on the lookout for more opportunities elsewhere.

Who are they targeting?
The Swans were at one point in the conversation regarding Essendon key defender Michael Hurley, and a tall defender would still be on their wish list with Ted Richards finishing up at the end of the year. - Adam Curley

West Coast

Draft selections: 13, 31, 49, 67, 85
Free agents: None

How's the salary cap looking?
The Eagles won't have a great deal of room to work with given most of their key men are locked away for at least another season. Xavier Ellis and Damien Cavka have both retired but that won't have a significant impact.

Who's definitely on the table?
No one has declared they definitely want out given they are in the midst of a September campaign.

Anyone else?
Eric Mackenzie and Mitch Brown will attract some interest and could be open to opportunities elsewhere given both have been squeezed out of the best 22. Young Victorian key forward Tom Lamb can't find a way into the Eagles side and could also be open to a move.

Who are they targeting?
The Eagles need ruckmen given the long-term injury to Nic Naitanui and the lack of 200cm-plus players on the list. They are very interested in Rory Lobb. Fremantle ruckman Zac Clarke may also be of interest. The Eagles are also likely to inquire about David Swallow's future at Gold Coast. - Alex Malcolm

Western Bulldogs

Draft selections: 12, 30, 58, 66, 71

Free agents: Matthew Boyd (unrestricted), Will Minson (unrestricted)

How's the salary cap looking?
The Dogs appear to have room to land a big fish after just failing to lure high-priced Bomber Michael Hurley to Whitten Oval.

Who's definitely on the table?
No Bulldogs have officially requested a trade yet with the season still alive.

Anyone else?
Midfielder Koby Stevens remains unsigned and has been linked with a move to Essendon. Small forward Nathan Hrovat is also out of contract, but is favoured to stay after impressing in his return from injury. Midfielder Mitch Honeychurch dominates the VFL, but has struggled for opportunities at senior level. Lin Jong could be headed to Collingwood after touring the Magpies' facilities mid-season.

Who are they targeting?
Travis Cloke is almost certain to be a Dog in 2017 after asking Collingwood for a trade. Geelong's Nathan Vardy is also of interest to the Dogs, as Luke Beveridge is a big fan of versatile big men. And after missing out on Hurley, Eagle Eric Mackenzie or Magpie Nathan Brown could also be on the Bulldogs' radar to replenish their thin key defensive stocks. - Ryan Davidson
