ADAM Treloar will play his first game for Collingwood this weekend, but it will be in a VFL practice match against Werribee that he runs out in his new colours for the first time.
The Magpies have decided to prepare the star recruit for the club's third NAB Challenge game against Western Bulldogs as he continues his comeback from off-season groin surgery.
"We'll get 70 or 80 minutes of footy into him with a view of having him up for NAB 3," coach Nathan Buckley said on Tuesday.
"His last five weeks have been pristine. He's been in really good shape.
"He got some really solid work in.
"It's the next progression for him and we're smoothing his progression to a round one berth, given that the steps up are good."
The Magpies will be boosted by the return of Scott Pendlebury, Travis Cloke, Darcy Moore and Tom Langdon for their trip to Wagga Wagga and a meeting with North Melbourne on Saturday.
But Ben Reid won't play against the Kangaroos, with the club hopeful he will be right to face the Bulldogs in the club's final NAB Challenge clash on March 12.
The key defender was not out on the track with teammates on Tuesday and Buckley said the club sent him for a precautionary scan.
"There was nothing on the scan that we were overly concerned with, but we're treating him clinically," Buckley said.
"He's likely to do some running tomorrow (Wednesday) and Thursday and we'll see how that settles and where he progresses from there."
Buckley said Collingwood was pleased with the injury profile of its list, although he acknowledged Jamie Elliott (back) and Jeremy Howe (finger/foot) still had some work to do in their respective comebacks.
Howe completed most of the prescribed training session, although he is still being held out of ball work as his broken finger continues to mend.
"Jamie will be a little bit longer than what we would have liked, but we can only deal with things as they present themselves," Buckley said.
"[Jeremy's] foot's going well, he's getting a fair bit of work in. We need to get a couple of solid weeks of training into him before he's going to be able to play and he'll work his way through the VFL program and have to earn his way into the side."
