PORT Adelaide rookie Darcy Byrne-Jones has re-signed with the Power until the end of 2018.
The defender has agreed to terms on a two-year contract extension.
The 20-year-old was the 52nd selection in the 2013 draft, but had to wait until round three this year for his AFL debut.
He has made the most of his opportunity, playing every game since and earning a NAB Rising Star nomination in round 10.
"I had this year left and there was a bit of pressure on me to take my game to another level and break into the AFL side," Byrne-Jones said.
"Pre-season was pretty nervy, I was just trying to do everything I could to put my best foot forward.
"I was lucky enough to get in round three against Essendon and I'm just trying to work hard and stay in there as much as I can."
Power coach Ken Hinkley said Byrne-Jones had deserved his chance to nail down a spot in the senior side.
"You know what a player like Darcy is going to give you every time, when he crosses that line he gives you 100 per cent," Hinkley said.
"I don't think anyone would say 'Darce' hasn’t earned his place in our team this year, but that comes from two years of really strong, hard work in the SANFL and during pre-season.
"He's only played his first year of AFL footy, but he handles himself well out there and we've been really comfortable with giving him some important jobs to do."
The Power will be aiming to finish their season on a high against Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium on Saturday night.
Key forward Charlie Dixon (ankle) and defender Tom Jonas (hamstring) are both highly unlikely to return to the side.
The pair did some light training on Wednesday away from the main group.
