Adelaide

Who’s gone?
Nathan van Berlo (205 games in 12 seasons) - retired
Matthew Jaensch (74 games in seven seasons) - retired

Who’s nervous?
Fringe swingman Ricky Henderson is an unrestricted free agent and has been in and out of the Crows team this year. Midfielder Mitch Grigg may need to move for more opportunities. Grigg has been in excellent form in the SANFL, but can't break into the Crows' best 22. The same goes for uncapped second-year midfielder Harrison Wigg and former Hawthorn ruckman Luke Lowden, who is now behind Reilly O'Brien as the back-up to Sam Jacobs.

Who’s worth a look?
Henderson could add value to a club looking for a rebounding half-back or a player adding run on the wing. Grigg has been linked with Carlton, who had have had success this year with ex-Crows pair Sam Kerridge and Matthew Wright. Wigg, the 35th pick in the 2014 draft, is off contract and could be worth taking a chance on given he's still only 19. - Lee Gaskin

Brisbane

Who's gone
Hugh Beasley (six games in two seasons) - delisted
Justin Clarke (56 games in five seasons) – retired
Billy Evans (seven games in two seasons) – delisted
Josh McGuinness (No games in two seasons) - delisted
Daniel Merrett (200 games in 14 seasons) – retired
Jackson Paine (16 games in five seasons) – delisted
Josh Watts (No games in two seasons) - delisted
Trent West (70 games in nine seasons) – retired

Who’s nervous?
It's hard to see the Lions delisting anyone else after making so many changes already. They turned over 35 players in the past three off-seasons, and with retirements factored in, already have eight players departing the club this year. With a new coach to come on board, it might be best to see which players he wants before swinging the axe again.

Who’s worth a look?
Paine could consider himself a touch unlucky and wouldn't be out of place on another list. He struggled as a forward, but was converted to defence in 2016 and, while not setting the world on fire, is disciplined and showed enough that he could develop in another environment. Evans is a busy midfield accumulator and could be worth further investigation. - Michael Whiting

Carlton

Who's gone?
Matthew Dick (six games in two seasons) - delisted
Jayden Foster (no games in two seasons) - delisted
Michael Jamison (150 games in 10 seasons) - retired
Clem Smith (seven games in two seasons) - delisted
Andrew Walker (202 games in 13 seasons) - retired
Cameron Wood (88 games in 11 seasons) - retired

Who's nervous?
Zach Tuohy
is weighing up a more lucrative and longer-term offer to join the Kangaroos. Carlton has offered him two years and he wants to stay, but much depends on what the Roos are prepared to give the Blues in return. Andrejs Everitt appears to be on the outer after managing only 13 games this season. The futures of Kristian Jaksch, Jason Tutt and Mark Whiley seem dim.

Who's worth a look?
Everitt was close to joining Gold Coast at the end of last year's trade period and renewing ties with Rodney Eade, but questions remain about his currency in the marketplace. Nick Graham managed only 12 games this season and may be valuable for a club looking for inside grunt. The Blues are searching for more class and outside run. - Howard Kotton

Collingwood

Who’s gone?
Brent Macaffer (77 games in nine seasons) - retired
Alan Toovey (159 games in 10 seasons) - retired
Dane Swan (258 games in 15 seasons) - retired

Who’s nervous?
Full-back Jack Frost was banished to the VFL after the Queen's Birthday loss to Melbourne in round 12 as the Pies preferred the more experienced Nathan Brown (who is considering his future). With Lachlan Keeffe set to return next season, Frost could be forgiven for feeling anxious. So too key forward Corey Gault, who is yet to make a genuine impact in his fifth season, including his third and final year as a rookie.

Who’s worth a look?
Frost has reportedly attracted the interest of the Brisbane Lions and could provide some value at 24 and with 54 games under his belt. Courageous, desperate and good in one-on-one duels, Frost's endeavour can't be questioned, but his kicking and decision-making are suspect. Could still develop into a Simon Prestigiacomo-type if he can simplify his focus and learn to play within his limitations. - Ben Collins

Essendon

Who's gone?*
Adam Cooney (250 games in 13 seasons) – retired
James Gwilt (152 games in 12 seasons) – delisted
Tayte Pears (70 games in nine seasons) – retired

*Does not include top-up players

Who's nervous?
There's still a group of unsigned Bombers whose futures are up in the air. Shaun Edwards, Jason Ashby, Nick Kommer and Shaun McKernan couldn't break into the senior team this year despite more opportunities being available. Apart from Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti (who will be elevated to the senior list), all of the club's rookies are also unsigned for next year at this stage, including Will Hams, who played eight senior games this year. It is also unclear if unrestricted free agent Courtenay Dempsey is in the club's plans for next year after an indifferent season in 2016.

Who's worth a look?
Edwards has undeniable talent that could be harnessed at another club. But he hasn't been able to string it together in three seasons at Essendon and another couple before that at Greater Western Sydney. McKernan's ability to kick a goal and roam around the field as a ruckman could appeal to another club looking for a back-up option, while Hams' dogged efforts in the midfield may also see him win another chance elsewhere if not at Essendon next year. - Callum Twomey

Fremantle

Who's gone?
Sean Hurley (zero games in two seasons) - delisted
Anthony Morabito (26 games in seven seasons) – delisted
Matthew Pavlich (353 games in 17 seasons) - retired
Tanner Smith (four games in five season) – delisted

Who's nervous?
There is a delay on a number of others due to the fact that Fremantle's WAFL-affiliate side Peel Thunder is still going in the WAFL finals series. There are also five free agents assessing their options and a number of others open to trade options so the Dockers need to be measured in their approach. Youngster Josh Deluca looks unlikely to keep his place on the list. Jack Hannath's future could depend heavily on whether Zac Clarke opts to leave. Experienced utility Tendai Mzungu is also under pressure.

Who's worth a look?
Ruckmen are hard to come by and Hannath could be of value to a number of clubs looking for some depth in that area. Morabito's injury issues would make him a risk for any club but there are whispers that both St Kilda and Essendon have inquired. - Alex Malcolm

Geelong

Who’s gone?
Nil. The Cats will wait until their finals campaign is over to make list changes.

Who’s nervous?
Injuries have ruined the chances of Zac Bates and Cameron Delaney establishing an AFL career. Padraig Lucey had a good second half of the year but he may be vulnerable while Tom Read has suffered from injury. Nathan Vardy is likely to look for more opportunities after playing in the VFL for most of the season.

Who’s worth a look?
Vardy will be in demand with a number of clubs interested in filling the ruck-forward role. Shane Kersten remains on the fringes of senior selection heading into finals but would be a good pick-up after 17 games in 2016. - Peter Ryan

Gold Coast

Who's gone
Tom Keough (zero games in one season) – delisted
Luke Russell (73 games in six seasons) - delisted
Danny Stanley (88 games in nine seasons) - delisted
Seb Tape (40 games in six seasons) - delisted

Who’s nervous?
A couple of players have anxious waits, particularly young defenders Henry Schade, Jack Leslie and Clay Cameron. The Suns might wait to see what they get back for outgoing midfielders Dion Prestia and Jaeger O'Meara before finalising their list, but this trio seemed to fall out of favour as 2016 wore on. After failing to claim a regular spot in five seasons, Schade might be most at risk, but either way, it's hard to see all three playing for the Suns in 2017.

Who’s worth a look?
Gold Coast's delisted players have generally been hampered by injuries over a few seasons. Russell seems to have lost his pace and bounce, and Stanley can be proud of what he has extracted from his career. If Tape can get his body right, he might be a glimmer of hope to sneak on to a rookie list. He is courageous and disciplined as a third defender, but needs to find a yard of pace and touch up his disposal. Unlikely, but not totally unrealistic. - Michael Whiting

GWS

Who’s gone?
Nil. The Giants will wait until their finals campaign is over to make list changes.

Who’s nervous?
Young defender Pat McKenna hasn't played a game in his two years on the list and hasn't been close, despite some solid form at times in the NEAFL, while midfielder Jake Barrett hasn't seen any senior action this year after making his debut in round 23 last season. Both players were dropped from the Giants' first final in the NEAFL when they were restricted to picking 15 listed players. Ruckman Dawson Simpson and key defender Tim Mohr might also be looked at.

Who’s worth a look?
Barrett is a prolific ball-winner at NEAFL level and averaged 29 possessions per game this season, and was close to best on ground with 32 touches and two goals in the Giants' winning reserves Grand Final. At just 20 years of age he might be a handy pick up for a club looking to add to its midfield depth. - Adam Curley

Hawthorn

Who’s gone?
Shem Tatupu (no games in two seasons) - released from contract to play rugby league with Melbourne Storm

Who’s nervous?
At 29, Matt Spangher's body has struggled to keep up with the rigours of football this year. Calf and hamstring injuries have marred his season, restricting him to just one senior game and eight VFL matches. Out of contract, it is doubtful this fan favourite will earn a new deal. Time might be up too for rookies Jermaine Miller-Lewis and Zac Webster who have struggled in the VFL this season.

Who’s worth a look?
Fully fit, Spangher could be a great asset for a club low on key position stocks. A versatile tall, he can play at either end of the ground. His intercept marking and defensive pressure are the standouts of his game. If he can get his body right, he could certainly play on beyond this season. - Nat Edwards

Melbourne

Who’s gone?
Nil. Melbourne will start making its list changes after VFL affiliate, the Casey Scorpions, bow out of finals.

Who’s nervous?
Key forward Chris Dawes' time at the club appears to be up after playing just six senior games in 2016, due in part to a lingering calf injury. Jack Grimes will almost certainly be moved on from Melbourne but could attract interest from elsewhere. Matt Jones is surplus to midfield/half-back needs, while Ben Newton and Dean Terlich and rookies Max King and Viv Michie are others who will find it difficult to retain their spots on the list.

Who’s worth a look?
Grimes is the only (restricted) free agent on Melbourne's list and may get another chance. Apart from making two senior appearances, the former co-captain had a dominant season in the VFL and he is a true professional. Matt Jones averaged 20.5 disposals from his 10 games and would have played more games had he not been sidelined for six weeks after fracturing his ribs earlier in the year. Dawes, a 28-year-old premiership forward, could provide an experienced presence for a club in contention. - Ben Guthrie

North Melbourne

Who's gone?
Nick Dal Santo (322 games in 15 seasons) - delisted
Michael Firrito (275 games in 14 seasons) - delisted
Brent Harvey (432 in 21 seasons) - delisted
Drew Petrie (316 games in 16 season) - delisted

Who's nervous?
Farren Ray was picked up as a mature-age rookie to add depth for North's flag challenge, but with the Roos' premiership window slamming shut the 30-year-old's stint at Arden St looks to be over. Small forward Robin Nahas only played eight games and kicked four goals in his second season on the rookie list and appears headed out the door, while key defender Joel Tippett didn't play a senior game this year and his time seems to be up. Rookie Will Fordham will be nervous after two years without a senior game, while Brad McKenzie might earn another deal despite being dropped for round 23.

Who's worth a look?
Brent Harvey is still playing good enough football to add something to a side contending for a flag and the games record holder will discuss his future with his manager soon. Drew Petrie has been linked to West Coast to add ruck support, although it would seem unlikely he plays on. Nick Dal Santo is rumoured to have attracted interest from Collingwood and still has the desire to play at the highest level. - Travis King

Port Adelaide

Who’s gone?
John Butcher (31 games in six seasons) - delisted
Alipate Carlile (167 games in 11 seasons) - retired
Sam Colquhoun (16 games in four seasons) - delisted
Kane Mitchell (35 games in four seasons) - delisted
Jay Schulz (194 games in 14 seasons) - delisted

Who’s nervous?
It's unlikely 101-game veteran Paul Stewart will be offered a new contract. He was in and out of the team playing 14 games this season. Defender Cam O'Shea, 24, was also on the fringe, making just 13 appearances at senior level. Brendon Ah Chee played 11 games and couldn't command a consistent spot in the midfield, but could be retained on the rookie list.

Who’s worth a look?
Still only 21, Colquhoun could spark the interest of clubs looking to increase their depth in the midfield. Butcher's ability to take a contested grab might convince a club to throw a lifeline to the former No.8 overall draft pick. The same applies to Schulz. He's 31 and missed half of this season with a back injury, but quality key forwards are worth their weight in gold. Ah Chee may benefit from a fresh start. - Lee Gaskin

Richmond

Who’s gone?
Troy Chaplin (215 games in 13 seasons) - retired
Adam Marcon (two games in one season) - delisted
Liam McBean (five games in four seasons) - delisted
Reece McKenzie (no games in two seasons) - retired

Who’s nervous?
Defender Jake Batchelor is out of contract and played only six games this season, putting his position in doubt. Midfielder Andrew Moore is also out of contract and hasn't been utilised to the extent the club expected as an inside midfielder. Kane Lambert is out of contract but should be retained. Ruckman Ivan Maric has not been re-signed.

Who’s worth a look?
Ivan Maric is looking at a dual role as a ruck coach and back-up ruckman, but that may not be at the Tigers. His leadership and mentoring as a ruck coach would make him a valuable pick-up even if he only plays in desperate circumstances. Lambert, if delisted, and Marcon might get second chances, but McBean would likely need to prove himself in a state league first. - Nathan Schmook

St Kilda

Who's gone?
Tom Curren (25 games in six seasons) - delisted
Luke Delaney (63 games in eight seasons) - delisted
Brenton Payne (no games in two seasons) - delisted
Josh Saunders (22 games in four seasons) - delisted

Who's nervous?
Sam Fisher, 34, wants to play on but the Saints will make a final decision after the trade period. Fellow experienced defender Sean Dempster hasn't re-signed either, despite the 32-year-old finishing in the top 10 of the best and fairest. Cameron Shenton didn't play in the senior team this year despite finishing second on the VFL goalkicking table. Tom Lee, Brodie Murdoch and Eli Templeton also struggled for senior opportunities.

Who's worth a look?
If Dempster or Fisher were discarded, they could provide defensive support for a premiership-contending side. Fisher hasn't played a full season since 2011 but Dempster would be particularly appealing, considering how well he played this year. - Dinny Navaratnam

Sydney Swans

Who’s gone?
Nil. The Swans will wait until their finals campaign is over to make list changes

Who’s nervous?
The Swans might have to make a tough call on veteran Ben McGlynn who, despite kicking five goals in round 23, hasn't produced on a consistent basis in 2016. Ruckman Tom Derickx is fifth in line at the Swans, and if he's not delisted, he's a big chance to retire, while youngsters Abe Davis, Lewis Melican (rookie), and Kyle Galloway (rookie) look a long way from being senior footballers. Gifted runner Jack Hiscox made his debut this season but struggled in the second half of the year, and had no impact in last week's NEAFL Grand Final.

Who’s worth a look?
Davis has been impressive at times as a running defender and midfielder, but can't seem to string a long patch of form together in the reserves. Melican has showed some promise as a defender in the NEAFL too, so he might be worth a punt if a club has a rookie spot open. - Adam Curley

West Coast

Who's gone
Corey Adamson (zero games in two seasons) - delisted
Jamie Bennell (87 games in eight seasons) - delisted
Damien Cavka (zero games in two seasons) - retired
Brant Colledge (three games in four seasons) - delisted
Xavier Ellis (120 games in 11 seasons) – retired
Kane Lucas (42 games in seven seasons) – retired
Patrick McGinnity (93 games in eight seasons) – retired
Alec Waterman (zero games in two seasons) – delisted

Who's nervous?
With eight changes already there are unlikely to be too many more delistings given there may be some trade moves. Irishman Paddy Brophy suffered a season-ending shoulder injury and it is unclear whether he will remain but the Eagles have been really pleased with his performances at WAFL level.

Who's worth a look?
Brant Colledge was a player who looked at moving last season and still has something to offer as a 21-year-old. He has shown promise at WAFL level but he hasn't been able to find a suitable role at West Coast. Alec Waterman should return to full health and he would be a fresh recruit for any potential suitors. - Alex Malcolm

Western Bulldogs

Who’s gone?
Jed Adcock - retired
Luke Goetz - delisted

Who’s nervous?
Veteran ruckman Will Minson looks destined to be delisted or retire after the 2013 All Australian has been largely out of favour under Luke Beveridge. Fellow big man Tom Campbell is out of contract and has only played 35 games in five seasons at the club. Creative midfielder Nathan Hrovat remains unsigned, but the 22-year-old is more likely to find a new home through a trade if he doesn't remain at the Dogs. Injury-prone utility Josh Prudden hasn't really had a run at it since he arrived at Whitten Oval in 2013, with a knee reconstruction the latest setback. Fresh off a third All Australian jumper, veteran Matthew Boyd's future remains in limbo with contract negotiations dragging on, but surely the Dogs will see sense and offer the loyal servant another season for his outstanding form this year. If Prudden and Campbell are dropped off the senior list, both could find themselves re-drafted as rookies.

Who’s worth a look?
Campbell has shown he can hold his own against the best big men in the League, and he also has the ability to take a contested mark up forward. Hrovat, the former Vic Metro captain, has played some good footy as a high half-forward this year. - Ryan Davidson
