FREMANTLE has pulled off a coup for its women's team by signing Australian Olympic javelin thrower Kim Mickle as a rookie.
Mickle, 31, is the reigning Commonwealth gold medallist in women's javelin and also won a world championship silver medal in 2013.
She recently competed at the Rio Olympic Games but dislocated her right shoulder while throwing in the qualifying round.
Mickle has had surgery on her shoulder but is expected to be right for the start of the pre-season.
Mickle played mixed football as a junior before concentrating on javelin.
"I've always wanted to play football but it wasn't available back then … it's cool that it has sprung up and become an elite sport," Mickle said.
"I can't wait to give it a go."
The Dockers have also added priority picks Ebony Antonio and Kirby Bentley as well as rookie Gabby O'Sullivan to their squad.
Antonio is also a talented multi-sport athlete. She has won two premierships in the WAWFL and a women's National Basketball League title with the Bendigo Spirit.
Antonio played for Melbourne under Fremantle coach Michelle Cowan in the Women's AFL Exhibition matches.
Bentley also played under Cowan at Melbourne and is a former AIS netball scholarship holder.
O'Sullivan is returning from the United States where she was on a basketball scholarship at the College of Coastal Georgia.
O'Sullivan's father John played 133 matches for East Fremantle in the WAFL.
The Dockers have already signed marquee players Kara Donnellan and Kiara Bowers.
