THE Western Bulldogs are sweating on the fitness of in-form ruckman Tom Campbell ahead of their opening-round clash with Fremantle at Etihad Stadium.
The 24-year-old rolled his ankle during the Bulldogs' NAB Challenge encounter with Collingwood, but Campbell will given every chance to prove his fitness before Sunday's game.
With Will Minson unavailable due to a hamstring complaint, the versatile Jordan Roughead will play against a Dockers outfit minus Aaron Sandilands if Campbell doesn't come up.
"We are going to give Tommy Campbell the full amount of time (to prove his fitness), so we've got another training session on Thursday and then Saturday's captain's run," coach Luke Beveridge told reporters on Tuesday.
"If Tommy doesn't come up 'Roughy' will play, and we've Jack Redpath there who can pinch hit, and we know Tommy Boyd is a good ruckman."
While there's uncertainty over his ruck division, Beveridge declared goal sneak Tory Dickson would play after overcoming an abductor injury.
Dickson kicked a career-best seven goals against Ross Lyon's men in round seven last year and his availability will be crucial with former Bomber Stewart Crameri serving a 12-month ban.
"Tory will be fine; you kind of feel like he's timed his run quite well," Beveridge said.
"He's been outstanding over the past two pre-seasons, he's a high achiever and trained the house down last week, and he'll be right to go."
Beveridge said versatile defender Joel Hamling would be considered for selection after he "played OK" in a VFL practice match on the weekend in his return from a minor hamstring concern.
