PLAYERS suspended for their part in the 2012 Essendon supplements program are set to train as a group this week, according to Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge.
The Dogs are concerned for the welfare of forward Stewart Crameri after the former Bomber received a 12-month ban when the Court of Arbitration for Sport upheld WADA's appeal in January.
All 34 of the suspended Essendon past and present players have committed to an appeal against their Court of Arbitration for Sport 12-month bans.
Dons ask past players to home opener
A date for the hearing in Switzerland is yet to be set.
"It appears they (the banned players) are going to have their first session later on in the week," Beveridge said
"There's something happening and 'Stewy' is keen to maintain his fitness base and get ready for the possibility he might re-join us if the appeal is successful.
"We've been quite anxious around the AFLPA getting something ready for the Essendon boys, Crameri and the boys from the other clubs if they're keen to train together."
It was reported that coaching great Mick Malthouse was set to mentor some of the suspended players, but Beveridge said it was unlikely the three-time premiership coach would be involved.
"You'd have to ask the AFLPA as to who is involved in that but I don't think it's Mick," he said.
"(Mick is) always a good man to lead, but the players are making that choice as I understand it, and that's driven by the Essendon boys.
