PORT Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley believes star young midfielder Ollie Wines is close to re-signing with the club to extend his stay beyond 2016.
Hinkley told the club's annual general meeting on Friday night the 21-year-old was close to putting pen to paper.
"It's really risky to say that he's close, but he's really close," Hinkley said.
Wines is a player who could field offers from all clubs in the AFL if he decided to leave Port Adelaide, which drafted him at pick No.6 in the 2012 NAB AFL Draft, but the club's hierarchy are confident he has no intention of leaving.
"He's the No. 1 cheer squad member for the Maggies as well as for the Power, and he just loves the whole thing of Port Adelaide. You just couldn't imagine him not staying at Port Adelaide," Hinkley said.
"We're very comfortable."
Wines, who has played 62 games with Port Adelaide, has been in no rush to re-sign but there has been no indication there was anything behind the move that should alarm Port Adelaide supporters.
"Ollie is his own man, a little bit, in the way he makes his own decisions in his own time," Hinkley said.
"That's the great thing about Ollie, you just give him some time and space and he'll make the right decision."
Wines missed the last five rounds in 2015 with a shoulder injury that required surgery, but he is in good shape heading into 2016.
