SERIOUS knee injuries have left two of the AFL's marquee players in doubt for next season's inaugural women's league.
Fremantle midfielder Kiara Bowers and Greater Western Sydney counterpart Renee Forth are anxiously awaiting scans after mishaps in the same game in Perth last Sunday.
It's feared both have damaged ACLs and, if confirmed, they would miss the entire first season of the new eight-team competition starting in early February.
Bowers and Forth, teammates with WAWFL ladder-leaders Coastal Titans, were forced off the ground from seemingly innocuous incidents in a semi-final against Swan Districts.
A spokesperson for the Dockers said the club's medical staff remained hopeful Bowers' scan doesn't reveal ACL damage. But they fear the worst from the initial diagnosis in the dressing rooms.
Bowers, 24, is a four-time WAWFL best and fairest winner who played for Melbourne in exhibition games over the past four seasons.
Forth, 29, is the Coastal Titans captain and played for Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs. She was Fremantle's skipper against West Coast in a curtain raiser to the men's Western Derby at Domain Stadium in April.
The injuries to the star midfielders capped a horror day for the Titans, who went into the match undefeated but ended it with a loss.
