THE LAST-minute blockbuster deal to bring Jaeger O'Meara to Hawthorn wouldn't have happened without former Adelaide on-baller Jarryd Lyons, Gold Coast coach Rodney Eade says.
Gold Coast was willing to stick to its guns and force O'Meara, 22, into the draft unless the Hawks satisfied their request of a senior player in return.
However, once the Suns were able to secure Crows midfielder Lyons in a trade for a third-round draft pick, they decided to accept Hawthorn's offer of a first-round and future second-round selection in exchange for O'Meara.

"As of Wednesday night, we weren't going to do it for 10 and 48," Eade told radio station SEN on Friday morning.
"All along we said we wanted a player.
"We got that player in Jarryd Lyons, so we changed tack ourselves and got Lyons, which we thought was a really good deal."
The Suns had a busy NAB AFL Trade Period, securing Lyons, Pearce Hanley from the Brisbane Lions and Collingwood ruckman Jarrod Witts.
They will also be a major player in the NAB AFL Draft with four picks inside the top 10.
Eade said the Suns would have to delist a contracted player to accommodate the three experienced arrivals and five draft picks on their list.
"Because with list spots, we could only bring three players in unless we traded someone else out," Eade said.
"As it is now, we'll probably have to delist a player who's on contract to fit five draft picks and the three players we've got in.
"We've fulfilled everything we wanted to do.
"We strengthened our hand in the draft, got some future picks and also got some experienced players into the club."
