AN AGREEMENT on a new pay deal for players from 2017 onwards is yet to be reached and AFL Players' Association boss Paul Marsh does not know when it will be completed.
League CEO Gillon McLachlan said in May he hoped a deal could be done by the end of July, however clubs subsequently were forced to make trades and recruit free agents despite not knowing what the salary cap will be next season.
Marsh was reluctant to reveal details when speaking to reporters on Thursday but said more progress was required before an announcement could be made.
"We'd like to get that done in the near future, but I can't put a time frame on it. There's still a bit of work to do," Marsh said.
"We're talking and we understand each other's positions."
He held out hope that the players would receive a percentage of the game's revenue, rather than a set amount.
"Let's hope so. That's certainly a very important principle that we're fighting for," he said.
