PORT Adelaide's midfield was embarrassed by its performance against Fremantle and is hungry to atone against Richmond on Friday night, Ollie Wines says.
The Power were stunned by the Dockers in round 13 before the bye, with the 17-point loss leaving Port two games outside the eight with just nine games left in the season.
Port lost the contested possession count by 30 and the total disposal count by 92.
Wines said the performance was unacceptable.
"As a midfield group particularly, letting them get so much of the ball, we were pretty embarrassed by it," Wines said.
"I think we're as hungry as we have been to come off that game and reply to (the Freo performance) on the weekend. We haven't forgotten about it at all. We're hungry to get out there Friday night."
Wines said the Port midfielders had been guilty of ball-watching and not showing enough defensive awareness.
"I know I do it. I get caught watching the ball and forget where my man is," Wines said.
"I think we've identified that, particularly in the last couple of weeks, obviously against Fremantle, their mids got off the chain a bit, so we've got to be on the ball with that on the weekend."
He said it was vital to keep an eye on in-form Richmond midfielder Dustin Martin on Friday night.
"He's an incredible player," Wines said.
"I think the last five weeks he's dominated. He's a great player inside the contest but he's really high for handball receives on the outside.
"So you just can't watch him on the inside. You've got to watch when the stoppage clears and the ball clears – he's really good, he gets on his bike and gets used."
Defender Jack Hombsch is set to make a welcome return from a hamstring injury, while forward Jay Schulz is available after making a successful return from his back injury in the SANFL two weeks ago.
Wines was unsure whether Schulz would be selected but he said his presence would help free up Charlie Dixon.
"I guess if Jay is there he draws a little bit of attention away, because Jay's a really talented contested mark and can drop off, and it probably just gives them something else to think about in the air," he said.
Port will have at least one forced change after losing developing tall Dougal Howard to a knee reconstruction after he ruptured his ACL in the loss to Fremantle.
