KICKING goals should not be a problem for the inaugural Brisbane Lions' women's team after signing Tayla Harris and Sabrina Frederick-Traub as their marquee players.
Harris, the 19-year-old Queenslander who has quickly become one of the faces of the game, is a key position player who has a great aerial attack on the ball. She can play in defence or in front of goal.
Frederick-Traub, also 19, is UK-born and from South Fremantle, and can play either ruck or key forward.
Coach Craig Starcevich says getting two young key position players is a great start to building the Lions' list.
"That's a real exciting thing for us," he said.
"Neither of them have got their trade completely mastered right now, but the good thing is they've both played at exhibition game-level and both have had three-goal bags in those games, so clearly they've got a level they can play at.
"We've seen enough (and) we're very happy we're going to have two very exciting key position players in our inaugural year."
Harris said it was a thrill to be playing for her local club, and the fact she's walked into a national league so young hasn't been lost on her.
"It's come perfectly for me because I haven't had to go through the tough 'not getting to play phase', which I'm sure plenty of the girls who are going to be involved have been through," Harris said.
Frederick-Traub is an Australia Post AFL multicultural ambassador, and throughout her school years was a dual-sport athlete, playing football and soccer.
The two girls have played both with (for Melbourne in an exhibition game) and against (at national under-18 level) each other.
