WESTERN Bulldogs midfielder Liam Picken's improved form has been rewarded with a two-year contract extension.

The new contract ensures Picken will remain at the Bulldogs until the end of 2017.

Picken has taken his game to a new level this year, averaging 22 disposals a match.

The 138-gamer said the Dogs’ emerging list was exciting to be around.

"It’s exciting times around the club, it’s been great while I’ve been here and hopefully the next few years are going to be just as exciting," he said.

"I’ve found a bit more balance in my game this year - I’m really enjoying my football at the moment and the side is really on the right path."

Bulldogs list manager Jason McCartney said Picken’s signature was an important one.

"Liam’s experience is invaluable for our young list and his leadership skills continue to grow," he said.

"His on-field performance this year has been outstanding, and we look forward to seeing that continue."

Picken was recruited to the Dogs with pick No.30 in the 2009 NAB AFL Rookie Draft.
