SIX AFL rookies from four clubs have earned a promotion after being named as nominated rookies.

Under the League's nominated rookie rule, a club can select a rookie player to feature in the home and away season and finals series if it has 38 players on its list, not including veteran players.

The players upgraded before Tuesday's 2pm AEDT deadline were Carlton’s Cameron Wood and Ciaran Sheehan, Collingwood defender Jack Frost, Gold Coast half-back Greg Broughton and defender Adam Saad, and Richmond midfielder Kane Lambert.

Wood played the final six games of last season after joining the Blues in 2013 following stints at the Brisbane Lions and Collingwood, while Sheehan added four games to his AFL tally after making his debut in round 20.

Frost was a key member of the Magpies' back six last year, becoming the only player at the club to feature in every home and away match.

For the Suns, Broughton has been given the nod after crossing over from Fremantle at the end of 2012, while Saad ‒ the No.25 pick in last year's rookie draft ‒ impressed in all three NAB Challenge games.

Lambert, who was selected by the Tigers with pick No.46 in last year's rookie draft, has also featured in all three pre-season hit-outs.

Following VFL stints at the Northern Blues and Williamstown, the 23-year-old particularly stood out in his first NAB Challenge appearance, accumulating 15 disposals and eight tackles against the Western Bulldogs.
