GEELONG has re-signed emerging defender Jake Kolodjashnij for two seasons, bringing to an end uncertainty about whether he would remain a Cat.
The 20-year-old has been exceptional in defence in the second half of the season, playing the last eight games straight to finish with nine for the season.
He was pick 41 in the 2013 NAB AFL Draft and had to bide his time before making his debut in round 12 against Melbourne.
He told the club's website he was rapt the contract had been finalised.
"I've been hanging out for a while to re-sign, so I'm rapt to be on board," Kolodjashnij said.
Kolodjashnij's negotiations had taken time to complete but the youngster had always stated his desire to remain at Geelong.
He took up the baton from Jared Rivers, showing he was capable of playing on talls and smalls and is a good contested mark.
He had finished fourth in the club's VFL best and fairest count in 2014 as he learned the demands of the game at the lower level.
But Geelong football manager Steve Hocking said he is now considered a key member of the Cats' future backline who will continue to improve.
"Jake is a talented defender and is someone we see as a major part of our long term future," Hocking said.
