The AFL wishes to advise it today notified the Western Bulldogs Football Club that the AFL Integrity Unit had concluded its investigation on a matter involving a bet being placed on the March 14 NAB Challenge match between the Western Bulldogs and Melbourne using the account of listed Western Bulldogs player Lachie Hunter.
The investigation found that player Hunter had not breached AFL rules, and further, that when Hunter was aware his account had been used by another person – a member of the Western Bulldogs’ VFL team - to place a bet on an AFL match, he alerted the club immediately, and cooperated fully with the investigation.
There is no penalty or sanction for player Hunter.
There is no current prohibition in the rules of AFL Victoria prohibiting VFL listed players from betting on AFL games including of the AFL club with which they are aligned. The Western Bulldogs Football Club will nevertheless review the conduct of the VFL player involved under its existing policies and codes of behaviour, as part a general review of the event.
Rules relating to VFL and other second-tier competition players wagering on AFL matches are currently being reviewed.
