THE BRISBANE Lions have added two more pieces to their revamped football department, with confirmation Craig and Melissa Lambert will return to the club.

Greater Western Sydney has released a statement announcing the popular husband and wife welfare managers are finishing up at the Giants to return to the Lions.

Craig will assume the role as strategy and retention manager, with Melissa to work as a player welfare manager.

Craig was an assistant coach during the Leigh Matthews era and was lauded for his welfare work with young players.

It continues the off-field reshuffle at the Gabba following the departures of football manager Dean Warren, physical performance manager Brett Burton and welfare leader Manny Lynch.

Matthew Francis has been upgraded from a development coach to take over Warren's role, while an announcement on Burton's replacement is expected soon.

AFL.com.au believes the replacement is coming from a top-eight team, which may delay the appointment until that club's finals campaign is finished.

Lambert is great mates with Lions coach Justin Leppitsch and his return is seen as a critical addition in a time of need.

The Lions lost five first-round draft picks two years ago and speculation is again swirling a number of players want out following Jack Redden's recent request for a trade.

Lambert said the time was right to move back to Queensland.

"While it's extremely difficult to be leaving the Giants, we have always planned on returning to Queensland to be with family. That time has now come," he said.

"It's been incredibly rewarding to be so closely involved with these (Giants) players and their families over the past five years and to see the playing group mature and develop.

"We look forward to watching their continued success with great interest."
