LIAM Jones has been disappointed by his start to 2015 but is confident he can help Carlton get its season back on track.
Jones, 24, joined Carlton in last year's trade period from the Western Bulldogs, where he played 66 games and kicked 68 goals from 2009-14.
In his first two games for the Blues the 198cm spearhead has kicked three goals – two against Richmond in round one and one against West Coast last Friday night – to head Carlton's goalkicking table.
He has also taken four contested marks, second only to Levi Casboult.
But Jones told AFL.com.au he had expected far more from himself after completing "probably the best pre-season" of his career.
"Similar to the team's (start), it's been disappointing for me," Jones said.
"I wanted to contribute a lot more to the footy team, especially a new football team.
"I had a great pre-season and unfortunately for me it hasn't shown as yet. But I've had to wait a week to play another game against Essendon and hopefully we play a lot better football."
The Blues will enter Saturday's clash against the Bombers winless and 16th on the ladder. But Jones is confident Carlton can kick-start its season soon.
"We just need to get back to the way we trained and the structures we trained over the pre-season," he said.
"I think we got a little bit away from that and obviously it's been disappointing the first couple of weeks, but I know we can play good football and we know we can play good football.
"A week in football is a long time and we look forward to having a good game this weekend against Essendon."
Jones has played alongside Lachie Henderson in attack in both of the Blues' opening games, while Casboult was added to the forward mix last round against West Coast.
The Tasmanian believes the three-pronged forward line can be a weapon for Carlton in 2015, saying he, Henderson and Casboult just have to take the "consistent chemistry" they developed over summer into the premiership season.
"Levi is big-marking and a really good second ruck as well, Lachie is a great lead-up and (has a great) work-rate and (with) myself a little bit deeper the mix that we have can work really well," Jones said.
"I'm just looking forward to it working well in the future."
