The aim of the TAC Cup Competition is to develop young footballers to the maximum of their ability. To achieve their potential players are to be coached in such a way that develops:
- The skills, physical attributes and football knowledge
- Personal characteristics and self esteem of each player
The Role of the TAC Cup U/18 Assistant Coach is to support the Head Coach in these areas.
AFL Victoria believes that the above development can be maximized in an environment that:
- Emphasizes individual player development rather than team success
- Emphasizes individual contribution as an essential component in a team environment
- Considers the players’ long term participation in football at a variety of levels
- Promotes a balanced approach to the players’ life styles
Main Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
TRAINING
- Work with players to develop their specific skills
- Communicate with players regarding their progress, areas to improve & provide feedback on performance
- 1 on 1 weekly interaction with allocated players
- Conduct training drills or sessions within the main group
MATCH DAY
- Concentrate on your specific coaching area (e.g Backline, Midfield, Forward Line)
- Keep relevant performance indicators, feed these to Head Coach at regular intervals
- Make constructive suggestions to Head Coach and provide possible solutions regarding your specific area
- Interact with other line coaches in relation to stoppages and rotation of players
- Address your group at intervals and provide accurate feedback to players
POST GAME
- Provide Vision Clips from your area (eg Backline) for weekly Team Review.
- Provide individual feedback (written/verbal) and vision for players in your area
OPPOSITION ANALYSIS
- You will be required to scout approximately 4 TAC Clubs during the season
- Prepare Opposition Analysis report for Match Committee meeting
- Present this report (Opposition Stats & Vision) at the team meeting on Thursday night
GENERAL
- Attend weekly Match Committee meeting and follow each meeting agenda and make contributions
- Attend all coaches meetings, player and/or parent induction meetings and other club functions
- Attend AFL Victoria/TAC Cup Professional Development sessions, as required
Experience & Qualifications
Mandatory:
- Level 2 coach accreditation within 12 months of your appointment
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- Highly developed verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to nurture youth talent
- Proficient IT skills
Desirable
- Exposure to talented player programs e.g. as a player in the AFL, or as a coach in the TAC Cup, VFL or Community Inter League programs
- Demonstrated working knowledge of vision editing programs
- Previous coaching experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of TAC Cup Competition
