MELBOURNE has declared tough midfielder Jack Viney available for selection to play Port Adelaide in Alice Springs on Saturday after missing six weeks with a fractured fibula.
Whether Viney needs a run at VFL level remains to be seen but his return could bolster a Demons midfield that is also expected to regain Dom Tyson.
Tyson, who missed last week's win over the Bulldogs with a knee injury, will be subject to a fitness test, as will key forward Chris Dawes who is expected to train on Thursday as he recovers from a calf problem.
Demons fitness boss Dave Misson told the club's website he was pleased with Viney's progress in the past month.
"Jack [Viney] has done some really good work in the last month and he's up for selection this week," Misson said.
A specialist has also declared defender Neville Jetta fit to play after missing the past four weeks with concussion. Jetta was an excellent performer on Power star Chad Wingard in the corresponding fixture last year.
"He’s done some really good training the last four weeks," Misson said.
Youngsters Christian Salem (hamstring) and Jay Kennedy-Harris (groin) remain on the sidelines for the next fortnight.
