AFL General Counsel Andrew Dillon today said the GWS Giants Football Club had been sanctioned $10,000 for a failure to provide adequate paperwork to ASADA on player address details for testing requirements.
Under the requirements of the Anti-Doping Code, all clubs in the AFL competition are required to keep ASADA notified at all times of current address details of listed players, for testing purposes. AFL players may be tested 365 days of the year for banned performance-enhancing drugs.
Mr Dillon said the GWS Giants had not notified the AFL of change of address details for players as required, and had therefore been sanctioned.
"All clubs have a requirement to be fully compliant with all the paperwork requirements of the Anti-Doping Code to ensure that ASADA is fully informed at all times and can perform its duties," Mr Dillon said.
"In this instance, it is important that the rules are fully complied with and a financial sanction is appropriate," he said.
GIANTS General Manager of Football Operations, Graeme Allan, said an administrative error on the part of the Club led to the sanction: "We have a strong commitment to upholding and adhering to the game’s integrity framework but we acknowledge that a basic administrative error has resulted in player addresses not being communicated properly."
