Other Matters Assessed:
The match day report against Geelong’s Harry Taylor for striking Collingwood’s Travis Cloke was assessed. The panel said Cloke was moving towards a marking contest with Taylor coming from the opposite direction. As Cloke completed the mark, Taylor made high contact with an open hand and a 50 metre penalty was paid against the Geelong Cats’ player. It was the view of the panel the force used was below that required for a reportable offence. No further action was taken.
The match day reports against GWS Giants’ Callan Ward and Hawthorn’s Will Langford for wrestling each other were assessed. After viewing all available footage, the MRP did not proceed with a charge against either player.
Contact between Melbourne’s Bernie Vince and the Sydney Swans’ Tom Mitchell from the second quarter of Saturday’s match was assessed. The ball was loose with Mitchell bending down to win possession. As Vince came to the contest, Mitchell went to ground and turned into Vince as both players reached for the ball. A high contact free was paid to Mitchell at the time and it was view of the panel that Vince was contesting the ball and had no real alternative way to contest the ball. No further action was taken.
Contact between Carlton’s Tom Bell and the Brisbane Lions’ Nick Robertson from the third quarter of Sunday’s match was assessed. The ball was close to the boundary with Robertson and Bell both chasing the ball. Robertson attempted to keep the ball in play while Bell bumped his Brisbane opponent to the side. Robertson lost balance after the bump and slid into the fence. It was the view of the panel that Bell was entitled to pressure his opponent and his actions were not unreasonable in the circumstances. No further action was taken.
