NORTH Melbourne is confident it can carry the strong momentum it generated in the second half of 2015 into next season, forward Shaun Higgins says.

The Roos sat 11th on the ladder after 14 rounds this year with a 6-7 win-loss record, but then finally found some consistency, winning their next seven games to seal a finals spot.

North rode the surge into September, winning its opening two finals against Richmond and Sydney Swans to reach its second consecutive preliminary final, when it gave West Coast a decent scare at Domain Stadium before going down by 25 points.

Higgins told NMFC.com.au that North could build on those performances in 2016.

"It was a disappointing way to finish the season (in the preliminary final), although the second half of the year we can take some real positives out of that," Higgins said from the Roos' Utah high-altitude training camp.

"We got massive improvement in the group, especially through the younger guys. I'm really confident that we can have a really good year again next year.

"There are no guarantees that we will end up in a prelim or a Grand Final, but definitely that's what we are building towards."

Higgins and fellow senior players Jack Ziebell, Jamie Macmillan and Shaun Atley voluntarily joined the club's first-to-fourth-year players on the two-week Utah camp, happy to sacrifice the final days of their off-season to get "a head start" on their 2016 pre-seasons.

"Similar to the other older boys that came along, for me, I wanted to continue to build on the season I had last year," Higgins said.

"(Having) no (post-season) surgery obviously helped, so I wanted to get a bit of a head start, and a little bit of a jump start on the other boys and head back for a good two-week period before Christmas."

North's camp in Utah finishes at the end of this week.
