STEVE Johnson would be open to playing at a club outside of Victoria, but he is yet to fully decide whether he wants to extend his illustrious career in 2016.

After 253 games and three premierships with Geelong, the 32-year-old was not offered a new contract for next season.

The mercurial forward said he would only play on if he felt a prospective club was the "right fit".

"I would contemplate [moving outside Victoria]," Johnson said on Tuesday.

"I was given some pretty good advice when I finished playing and that was ‘don't say no to anything’.

"I've been willing to sit down with a number of different clubs that all throw up different opportunities.

"Once I've done that I'll be able to make a decision and end this speculation."

Having already spoken to several clubs, Johnson said his situation would become clearer in the coming weeks.

And while a move to a club in its "premiership window" is appealing, it is not the be all and all for the 2007 Norm Smith medallist. 

"I haven't 100 per cent decided that I'll be playing on yet," Johnson said. 

"If there's a good fit for me and I'm a good fit for a football club well then it will be likely." 

Johnson, who kicked the third-most goals in Geelong history (452), said he still possesses the drive to attack what would be his 15^th AFL season. 

"I certainly do have the motivation. I'm not afraid of going through a tough pre-season – that's not a factor for me," Johnson said.

"I need to work out whether a club is a good fit for me in a playing capacity and if I don't see if that's right, well then, I'll look to other opportunities."
