FORMER Western Bulldogs best and fairest winner Luke Darcy will be part of the selection committee that will choose the club's next coach.

 

Darcy said had decided to accept the responsibility at the urging of club president Peter Gordon.

 

Club football director Chris Grant will chair the committee which will include Bulldogs CEO Simon Garlick, football manager Graham Lowe, West Coast premiership coach John Worsfold and Darcy.

 

The committee is due to meet for the first time on Tuesday afternoon. 

 

Darcy said he would enter the process with a completely open mind as to who would be the right fit for the job. He said he expected that whoever won the job would need support to succeed. 

 

"It's such a complex role now that you get someone who might have a huge amount of skill in one area who needs some support in another area," Darcy told radio station Triple M.

 

"I don't think there is someone who can deal with all of the complexities all on their own." 

 

Bulldogs assistant coach Brett Montgomery leads the long list of candidates that could include Peter Sumich, Brett Ratten, Scott Burns and Leigh Tudor. 

 

The Bulldogs removed Brendan McCartney as senior coach with two years to run on his contract after ex-skipper Ryan Griffen told the club he wanted to be traded to Greater Western Sydney. 

 

Griffen eventually joined the Giants after the Bulldogs convinced GWS' No.1 draft pick in 2013, Tom Boyd, to join the Bulldogs on a multi-million dollar deal.
