COLLINGWOOD believes Lachlan Keeffe and Josh Thomas are likely to receive two-year bans from the AFL Anti-Doping Tribunal.
Keeffe and Thomas both accepted provisional suspensions after testing positive to the performance enhancing drug clenbuterol in February and are now awaiting a date for their hearing.
"I wouldn't say their careers are over. They're in a process where it appears a likely outcome is a two-year suspension, from everything that we're hearing," Magpies CEO Gary Pert told Triple M on Sunday.
"That's serious but they're still young guys."
Pert said the club would continue to support Keeffe and Thomas through their situation.
"The welfare process and the support – myself, Balmey (Neil Balme), Ed (Eddie McGuire), the players, we're in communication with them but we talk to them about, 'How are you going?' and 'How can we support you?' Pert said.
"What we don't do is get caught up in the legal process and that's the most critical part right at the moment."
Fremantle midfielder Ryan Crowley received a 12-month ban, backdated to September 25 last year, for testing positive to methadone contained in a painkiller that had not been approved by the club doctor.
St Kilda forward Ahmed Saad was slapped with an 18-month suspension for consuming a banned substance contained in an energy drink.
Meanwhile, Pert confirmed the club's interest in Giant Adam Treloar but conceded the out-of-contract midfielder was likely to stay at GWS to be part of what the fledgling club was building.
"It's going to be totally in his and GWS' hands. Everything that we hear is about the fact he wants to stay [and] they'd love to keep him so it really doesn't come into our serious mix until that opportunity starts to unfold," Pert said.
"We would love to have a player like that playing for the Collingwood Football Club and I would answer that for 10 other guys as well."
Pert also said the Pies expect to reach their on-field peak when recent first-round picks Jordan De Goey, Darcy Moore, Nathan Freeman and Matt Scharenberg "hit their straps" from 2017.
