WEST Coast key defender Jeremy McGovern looks set to return this week against Hawthorn despite barely training during the Eagles' light skills session on Tuesday.
Eagles coach Adam Simpson confirmed on 3AW on Monday night that he was preparing for McGovern to play on Saturday night after the hamstring strain the backman suffered in round 16 against Collingwood.
McGovern will be tested at the next two sessions on Wednesday and Friday after he only did some stationary handball work at the Eagles' recovery/skills session on Tuesday.
Callum Sinclair and Chris Masten both failed to appear on Tuesday but should be fine to face the Hawks on Sunday.
Sinclair had precautionary scans on his knee on Monday following a scare in the Eagles' draw with Gold Coast on Saturday night. Sinclair landed awkwardly on his knee early in the match but he played the remainder of the game without any problems. Scans cleared him of any structural damage.
Masten suffered a knock to the knee in the same game and was being rested early in the week ahead of a big game for the club.
Josh Kennedy did not train on Tuesday but that is not unusual for the Coleman Medal leader. Nic Naitanui, Jack Darling, Scott Selwood, Will Schofield and Xavier Ellis were also on light duties.
The Eagles have confirmed that Damien Cavka, their fourth pick in the 2014 NAB AFL Draft, has been ruled out for the remainder of the year after requiring surgery to repair a stress injury in his ankle.
Cavka had stress related soreness early on in the year but fought back to play two WAFL reserves and one league game with East Perth mid-season. But the soreness returned, and after waiting to see if it would settle, the club has opted to send him in for surgery later this week.
Father-son recruit Alec Waterman also might miss the remainder of the season. He has not played since June 1 after suffering glandular fever. He has been training at West Coast but has only been on light duties.
Eagles' football manager Craig Vozzo told the club's website on Tuesday that unless Waterman made a significant improvement he is unlikely to play again this season.
