The AFL wishes to advise the Match Review Panel has reviewed the matches played in round 21 of the 2015 Toyota AFL Premiership Season. The following charges were laid:

Charges Laid:

Luke Hodge, Hawthorn, has been charged with engaging in rough conduct against Chad Wingard, Port Adelaide, during the third quarter of the Round 21 match between Hawthorn and Port Adelaide, played at Etihad Stadium on Friday August 21, 2015.

In summary, due to his previous bad record, his two-game penalty increases to a three-game penalty. He can accept a two-match sanction with an early plea.

Based on the available video evidence and a medical report from the Port Adelaide Football Club, the incident was assessed as careless conduct with medium impact to the head. The incident was classified as a two-game sanction. The player has a bad record of three matches suspended within the last two years, which increases the sanction by one week to a three-week sanction. An early plea enables the player to accept a two-game sanction.

David Mundy, Fremantle, has been charged with striking Brent Harvey, North Melbourne, during the second quarter of the Round 21 match between Fremantle and North Melbourne, played at Etihad Stadium on Sunday August 23, 2015.

In summary, he can accept a $1000 sanction with an early plea.

Based on the video evidence available and a medical report from the North Melbourne Football Club, it was the view of the panel the incident should be classified as intentional conduct with low impact to the body. This offence was classified as a $1500 sanction. The player has no applicable bad record. An early plea can reduce the penalty to a $1000 sanction.

Other matters assessed:

Dustin Martin, Richmond, has been referred to the AFL Football Operations Department for determination under the Player Rules after making a gesture to the crowd during Saturday’s match against Collingwood at the MCG..

The match day report against Collingwood’s Jarryd Blair for making forceful contact from front-on against Richmond’s Anthony Miles was assessed. After viewing all available footage and receiving a medical report from the Richmond Football Club, it was the view of the panel that Miles was chasing a loose ball after a bounce with Blair coming to the contest from the side. As Miles bent down to pick up the ball, Blair also had his hands down in front of him and made contact to his opponent. It was the view of panel that Blair was trying to contest the ball as he reached forward and he had no real alternative way to contest the ball. No further action was taken.

The match day report against Fremantle’s Nat Fyfe for making forceful contact from front-on against North Melbourne’s Ben Jacobs was assessed. After viewing all available footage and receiving a medical report from the North Melbourne Football Club, it was the view of the panel that the ball was loose, with Jacobs turning back towards the bouncing ball with Fyfe coming towards him. As Jacobs reached for the ball, Fyfe goes to ground with his hands out in front of him to contest the ball. As Fyfe moves into the contest, he makes incidental high contact to the North Melbourne player’s face with his arm and a free kick is paid against him. Fyfe’s body then makes contact to Jacobs’ chest and shoulder area. It was the view of the panel there was insufficient forceful high contact to constitute a reportable offence. No further action was taken.
