ADAM Treloar says he chose to be traded to Collingwood rather than fellow suitor Richmond because he sees the Magpies having a "better list" capable of winning a premiership in the coming years.
Treloar, 22, decided the time was right to return home to Melbourne after four seasons at Greater Western Sydney – his situation becoming one of the most talked about of last month's trade period.
"A lot of people might think I'm silly because Richmond have a lot of good players but I think Collingwood have a better list, a younger list, who in a couple of years time can hopefully win a premiership," Treloar said at Falls Creek on Wednesday.
"That's my ultimate goal and this team's goal. It's been clearly evident when I've come into this club that they're driven for success and that's to be a premiership team and that's what I want to be a part of."
After prolonged discussions between GWS and Collingwood, the Pies gave up its first-round pick this year (No.7 overall) and next year's first pick for Treloar, along with pick No.65 to the Giants.
In addition to Treloar, the Giants sent their second-round draft pick this year (No.28 overall) back to the Pies.
In his first interview with the media in his new colours during the club's training camp for its first-to-fourth-year players in Victoria's alpine region, Treloar also addressed the situation around the 'secret' groin surgery he had done in Tasmania in the off-season.
The Giants were incensed they were not informed of the operation but Treloar said it was ultimately his decision to have the operation so that he could return to pre-season training at his new club earlier.
"I had a medical done with Collingwood and they gave me a bit of advice as to what they thought could happen, but ultimately they left it to me," Treloar said.
"Because I'd already indicated to the Giants that I was already leaving, I didn't think I really had to (inform GWS).
"I decided that I wanted to get the surgery done because if I had the surgery when I signed with Collingwood about a month ago, I would've been pushed back further.
"I'm not far behind the eight ball now."
Seven weeks post-operation, Treloar has completed a fair chunk of the training with his new teammates, but he has had to sit out the high-intensity running sessions to reduce the stress on his body.
"I'm two weeks ahead of schedule in terms of my running and physically how I'm feeling," Treloar said.
"I'm gradually joining in the main bits with the boys, but for now it's about looking after the body and not having that groin issue that I had this year."
As for the infamous video that was released on Collingwood's website, with Treloar discussing his trade to the Magpies before it even happened, the midfielder said he had no issues.
"I was in New Zealand at the time and my missus woke me up and told me the video had been released," he said.
"There was no issue with it. The whole point of it was that I was going to be in New Zealand when I was going to get traded.
"It was good it got released because it got released quicker than what I was going to be a Collingwood player – so it was exciting."
