GEELONG'S impressive off-season recruiting spree has helped the club significantly boost its membership base.
The Cats, who acquired Patrick Dangerfield, Lachie Henderson, Scott Selwood and Zac Smith in the trade period, have already exceeded 35,000 members.
The current total of 35,176 is up by approximately 10,000 on this time last year as the club strives to achieve 50,000 members.
"The great thing this year is because we've resourced heavily in our membership team, we were able to get in early and renew about 70 per cent of members," chief commercial officer Justin Reeves said.
"Plus, we have had around 3,500 new members join already, which is fantastic as our campaign focusing on new memberships hasn't even started."
In other membership news, St Kilda claimed a record when it broke the 20,000 barrier towards the end of November (the fastest 20,000 signed in the club’s history).
And Carlton was also boasting a record number when it reached the 25,000 mark at the start of December (the first time it had reached that figure by December 1).
Records are set to fall across the Victorian border too with Port Adelaide on track to set a fourth consecutive membership record. Port has 40,000 members already signed up, the most in the club’s history for this time of year. Port cracked the 60,000 mark for the first time in 2015.
