SYDNEY Swans coach John Longmire says teams never play for percentage but he was pleased his players kept the foot down in their dominant win over Fremantle to stay in the race for a top-two finish.
The Swans thumped Fremantle by 90 points just a day after Greater Western Sydney belted Richmond by 88 points to remain just two percentage points adrift of the Giants in third spot on the ladder with four games remaining.
Longmire said he never discussed percentage with his players but he was delighted with his side's ability to kick away from the Dockers in the second half.
"Look, you don't come in for (percentage)," Longmire said.
"You come in and worry about the things you can focus on, the processes. But in the end it was good to be able to put in a strong performance and keep the foot down. It's always good to be able to do that.
"I just think it's what you want to do anyway – you want to make sure you finish off a pretty strong job. You don't want to relax. You want to keep going and put the foot down."
Longmire was also pleased with the depth of his squad. Experienced duo Ted Richards and Ben McGlynn were both left out despite being available for the trip to Domain Stadium.
The form of youngsters Aliir Aliir, Callum Mills, Dean Towers and Isaac Heeney means that it is tough to break into the team at present.
"We've been able to pick strong teams going in on the back of some youth going into the team, which has been fantastic," Longmire said.
"It's not just about playing them and ticking off the games. They need to come in and play well, play to a standard, and the senior players really drive that standard.
"If they come in and play to a certain standard, they stay in the team."

The makeshift ruck duo of Sam Naismith and Toby Nankervis was also pleasing for Longmire with the pair set to continue during Kurt Tippett and Callum Sinclair's absence.
He also believed Josh Kennedy's 45 disposals and three goals was one of his most outstanding performances for the club.
The Swans are well-placed for a top-two finish with matches to come against Port Adelaide, St Kilda, North Melbourne and Richmond but Longmire said he is not looking any further forward than next Saturday against Port.
