FORMER Fremantle captain Peter Bell has been elected to the Fremantle board, replacing outgoing member and inaugural club captain Ben Allan.
Bell was the only nomination for the vacant position as a member-elected director after Allan had completed his maximum term.
Dockers chairman Steve Harris confirmed Bell had been elected unopposed at Fremantle's annual members' meeting at Fremantle Oval on Tuesday night.
Bell played 286 AFL games.
He played two matches with Fremantle in 1995 before joining North Melbourne where he played 123 matches and won two premierships in 1996 and 1999.
He returned to Fremantle in 2001 and captained the club for five seasons, including the Dockers' first finals series in 2003, and won three best and fairest awards.
Bell became the first Fremantle player to be inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame this year.
He retired in 2008 and has since worked as a hospitality business owner and a radio presenter and commentator.
He joined the newly established Fremantle Foundation earlier this year as an ambassador to help the club in its efforts to fund the new training facility being built at Cockburn Central West.
"When the opportunity came to nominate myself as a member-elected director I just thought the timing was right," Bell said on Tuesday night.
"There had been that separation from the playing period. There have been a lot of changes at the footy club.
"There's so much to learn. The game changes within seasons. So to be out of the game for seven years I've really got to fast track and get back into how the footy club is run and what it feels like to be a player.
"I feel like in the things that I've learnt since I retired there's many areas where I can make a contribution. But I'm also respectful of the steep learning curve that I have in front of me."
