COACH Brad Scott is adamant he remains committed to heading up the rebuild at North Melbourne, which is winless in five games this season.
Scott is contracted until the end of 2018, but raised some eyebrows in a television interview this week, when he said he and the club would "keep analysing" whether he should coach again next year.
"Let me be unequivocal – my commitment to North Melbourne has never wavered and it's not wavering now," Scott said on Thursday.
"What I clearly said is that I'll always do what's in the best interests of North Melbourne.
"Like I do with players when you pick the team each week and you take part in list management, you do what's best for the football club.
"That's something we're always analysing, and if you're not doing that, you probably should be."
Scott was linked with the vacant Brisbane Lions coaching job at the end of last season, but has since dismissed reports he considered leaving.
He has led the Kangaroos to the finals in four of his seven completed seasons, but they are 0-5 entering Saturday night's clash with the Suns at Etihad Stadium.
North lost by five points or fewer for the third time this year last weekend against Fremantle in Perth, after again squandering a sizeable lead.
Scott said his players should have "put the result far beyond doubt" in some of those losses.
"There’s a huge difference between some winless starts to the year and when you’re being blown off the park, not competitive and the players feel a sense of helplessness," Scott said.
"As a coach, you’re trying to show them the way forward and the way out. But, to be perfectly honest, the players are really buoyant.
"When the losses do keep mounting up the morale is an important factor."
Scott tipped all of Shaun Higgins (hamstring), Ben Brown and skipper Jack Ziebell (both knee) and Todd Goldstein (ankle) to play.
But he stopped short of guaranteeing out-of-sorts former captain Andrew Swallow his spot.
