IT IS less than a week until the NAB AFL Trade Period opens next Monday, but the negotiations are in full swing.
The free agency window starts even earlier, on Friday, as players prepare to move clubs in another red-hot exchange period.
AFL.com.au's Trade Winds will provide a round-up of the latest action every morning until the end of the Trade Period on Thursday, October 19.
Veteran Roo, Magpie goalsneak set to stay put
Despite intense speculation about their futures, North Melbourne ruckman Todd Goldstein and Collingwood forward Alex Fasolo will remain at their existing clubs, according to The Australian.
The newspaper is also reporting Fremantle could make a play for Geelong free agent Daniel Menzel, while the Lions appear almost certain to add forgotten Port big man Matthew Lobbe to their list.
It had been speculated Goldstein, who was dropped late in the year after going through a form slump, would be on the move during the trade period with Greater Western Sydney reportedly interested in his services, even though he contracted at North until 2019,
Emerging big man Braydon Preuss also appears likely to sign a new contract extension after there had been some talk that he also might find a new home.
Fasolo wants to stay at Collingwood, despite keen interest from home town club West Coast.
The Dockers, who ranked last in the AFL for scoring last season, will likely make a bid for Menzel when the free agency period officially opens on Friday.
Rockliff's road becomes clearer
BRISBANE Lions midfielder Tom Rockliff will nominate Port Adelaide as his destination of choice, and not Carlton, in 2018.
Fox Footy reports that Rockliff, a free agent, has informed Carlton of his preference to play with the Power from next year.
The Blues had wheeled out the big guns to try to lure the onballer to the club, with Chris Judd and Stephen Kernahan present for a meeting between coach Brendon Bolton and the departing Lion.
The Lions are unlikely to match the Power's offer for the restricted free agent.
Port Adelaide football manager Chris Davies is scheduled to speak on NAB AFL Trade Radio later on Wednesday, where he is expected to confirm the news surrounding Rockliff's decision.
Ah Chee linked with the Eagles
West Coast has renewed interest in Port Adelaide midfielder Brendon Ah Chee, according to The West Australian.
As reported by AFL.com.au on Monday, Ah Chee has informed the Power he will be looking for a new club during the trade period after managing just five senior games this season.
According to the newspaper, the 23-year-old is favoured to end up back home in his home state of WA.
However, his manager Anthony Van Der Wielen insists that's not necessarily the case, with Ah Chee open to playing at any of the three clubs that are interested in his services.
Ah Chee has also been linked with Gold Coast, where brother Callum plays.
Crows to make Dees sweat over Lever
Adelaide is prepared to play hard ball in any deal that facilitates out-of-contract defender Jake Lever's move to Melbourne.
The star backman nominated the Demons' as his club of choice in an interview with Channel Seven on Tuesday evening.
The Adelaide Advertister reports the Crows are willing to start the biggest "poker game" in negotiations with the Demons for Lever and will be prepared to talk with other Victorian clubs, including Collingwood, in the lead up to the trade period
The Crows expressed their disappointment in Lever's decision to leave, labelling it as financially motivated.
Lever said his decision was also based on returning home to be closer to his family, while in the interview with Channel Seven he did not rule out going in the national draft to ensure he got to the Demons.
The Crows are expected to demand two first-round draft selections for the gun intercept defender.
