MELBOURNE is expected to again knock down speculation that Jesse Hogan will seek a trade when clubs meet at Etihad Stadium on the opening day of the NAB AFL Trade Period.
It is understood Hogan has told the Demons he does not wish to be traded just 12 months after signing a new contract that takes him through to the end of 2019.
But speculation that Fremantle is mounting a bid to lure the powerful 22-year-old intensified on Sunday after reports emerged that Hogan had met with Dockers skipper Nat Fyfe in Perth this week.
Sources close to Hogan reiterated on Sunday that the key forward is not asking for a trade and said the meeting between the West Australian, Fyfe and the pair's manager was a social one.
Hogan resisted the lure of home to sign a two-year extension last October.
"Melbourne is where I want to be. I really like the city and I’m really excited about what we can do together as a footy club," he said at the time.
The Claremont product has endured a difficult year, which saw him deal with his own cancer diagnosis and the death of his father, Tony.
He also battled injury, suffering a broken collarbone and a left hamstring injury and playing 10 games.
Melbourne football manager Josh Mahoney told NAB AFL Trade Radio on Wednesday that Hogan was off-limits.
"At no stage have we spoken about Jesse Hogan being a trade option at any point to any club, or even internally," Mahoney said.
"He's a very important part of our team moving forward, he's committed to our club already last year.
"The year he went through this year showed great resilience. The year of things that he had to go through was probably more than I've seen of any other player, and we can't wait for him to turn back up in pre-season and then really attack next year."
