POLICE are investigating a violent brawl at Etihad Stadium's EJ Whitten Legends Bar allegedly involving Collingwood and St Kilda supporters on Saturday night.
Mobile phone footage of the incident aired on Channel Nine showed about half a dozen people involved, with punches being thrown and glasses shattered.
At least one patron was struck in the head.
The EJ Whitten Legends Bar is a public bar with standing room and a clear view of the ground behind the goals at the Coventry end of the AFL owned venue.
"Police were called to reports of an altercation at a licenced premises inside a sporting venue in Melbourne about 9pm on Saturday," a Victoria Police spokesperson confirmed to AFL.com.au.
"During the altercation, one man was struck on the face.
"Parties were spoken to and some of the people involved were ejected from the venue.
"The investigation is ongoing."
The latest incident follows a spate of crowd behaviour concerns at AFL venues this season including:
- Up to six supporters ejected after a scuffle on Anzac Day at the MCG
- Up to eight fans involved in a brawl outside Adelaide Oval's Magarey Room in round five
- An Essendon fan abusing Melbourne Max Gawn from over the Etihad Stadium fence in round six
- And a fan tapping Western Bulldogs captain Easton Wood on the backside from over the fence in round nine
An AFL spokesperson confirmed the League was working with police.
"Stadium security staff were positioned in the area and the Victoria Police were called, responding immediately," the League said.
"Police are now doing further investigations and this matter is under their jurisdiction.
"The stadium implements security strategies for all events, which includes working with Victoria Police to have a presence at each game.
"Patron safety is Etihad Stadium's number one priority, and the AFL and the Stadium do not condone any behaviour that threatens the safety of others.
