1. Shades of Gray
There could be some more Brownlow Medal votes coming Robbie Gray’s way after 28 disposals and three goals, but a quiet Sam Gray provided one of the highlights of the night late in the fourth quarter. Jared Polec kicked the ball into the teeth of goal where the small forward got a little ride on Luke Dahlhaus in the goal square. Dahlhaus will be left with a knee-shaped bruise on his back while Gray added some sparkle to a strong performance by the home side.

2. Polec’s goal a defining moment
The home side was under siege early in the third quarter with a Mitch Wallis contested mark and goal putting the visitors within 19 points. The Dogs were dominating possession and were leading the contested ball 12-7. But against the play Jared Polec received a quick handball from Travis Boak and kicked a boundary-line goal from 40m to lift his team and the crowd. The Power went on to kick the next three majors to open up a commanding 42-point advantage. 

3. Purple patch for Richards
A double celebration for the Bulldogs at the five-minute mark of the second quarter. The visitors’ first goal of the contest was also Ed Richards’ first in the AFL – the 18-year-old showed composure converting a set shot from 25 metres. He ended up with three goals for the term with his third – a 55-metre effort from the boundary line – the most impressive.

4. Power fans show support for Marshall
There was a standing ovation for Todd Marshall and his family at the 13-minute mark of the first quarter. Thursday night’s match was the tall forward’s first appearance in the Power line-up since his father passed away in late April. Teammate Jared Polec added some extra enthusiasm to the applause with a 50-metre goal near the boundary, as the tribute began. But Port Adelaide supporters haven’t lost their ruthless edge – former crowd favourite Jackson Trengove received plenty of jeers in his first game against his old club.

5. Jury out on extra umpire
With only six games being played in Round 13, the AFL has decided to trial four field umpires. The men in yellow picked out several free kicks for forwards, especially in the first half. Ed Richards made the most of a holding decision against Dan Houston and a push in the back by Steven Motlop in the second quarter. Jackson Trengove was penalised for holding Charlie Dixon in both the first and second quarters with the Power spearhead kicking a goal after the siren to end the second half. Forty-nine free kicks were awarded throughout the night suggesting the game wasn’t over-officiated.
