THE GIANTS have now won three games in a row, but it is a tough month of football ahead that could make or break their season.

After their 27-point win over the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba on Saturday night the Giants are now two points outside of the top eight.

Coach Leon Cameron said his team was one of several sides around the middle of the table battling hard to force their way into finals contention.

With their next match against the resurgent Hawks at home followed by clashes with the high-flying Eagles in Perth, reigning premiers Richmond, and Port Adelaide in Adelaide, Cameron conceded it would be a tough month as they pushed for a spot in September.

"We know that this competition is starting to really tighten up," Cameron said.

"Us and the Bombers and the Hawks are trying to bust our way into that eight, and there's a number of sides in the eight that are playing some really good footy.

"To get to just over the half way mark of the year and have 11 sides still thrashing it out to try and get into that eighth sport or seventh spot or sixth spot is fantastic.

"But we can't look anything further than Hawthorn, we know it's going to be a massive game next Saturday night."

One thing going in the Giants favour after the bye is their elite midfield.

Stephen Coniglio returned strongly from injury to join Josh Kelly, Dylan Shiel, Callan Ward in an on-ball bridge that is starting to click according to Cameron.

"I think you judge from week to week and we had a pretty good three weeks," he said.

"There's no doubt there's going to be something on the tape that you look at and say that's not good enough – everyone's looking for perfection, all coaches are.

"Our midfield is definitely progressing in the right manner … we need to have some good connection with our talls though, and we need to continue to work on that."

Cameron wouldn't speculate on whether their tough month ahead was made harder by the likely suspension of key forward Jeremy Cameron but was generally happy his team kept their composure after the incident.

"(It's) pleasing that when they got within that 15-point margin we responded with a couple, and then they came again, and we responded again," he said.

"I'd put that down to pretty good composure, even though there's no doubt some of our boys probably didn't play to the level that they needed to."

Cameron also praised inclusion Dawson Simpson for his effort against Stefan Martin and said he was pleased to come out of the clash with no injuries.
