GREATER Western Sydney coach Leon Cameron says Sunday's 22-point win over Port Adelaide was built on grit and determination, descriptions not often linked to the Giants in their short history.

After losing preliminary finals in the past two seasons, GWS has come under fire for having the Rolls Royce list that falters when it really matters.

But they took steps towards dispelling that myth at Adelaide Oval on Sunday night, withstanding a mighty challenge from the Power to win and edge within two points of the top four.

Cameron said the start - which saw them open up a 21-point lead at quarter time - was pleasing, but it was how the side responded when the going was tough that gave him the greatest satisfaction.

"We understand it was a huge result for our footy club. A contest at times probably wasn't the prettiest of contests, but it was one that was built on resilience and grit and determination," he said.

"Under siege in the first 10 minutes of the last (quarter), to find a way to kick the last two (goals) was just fantastic for a group that has probably been accused in the past couple of years of not sort of having that resilience, but I think that was a real gritty, determined win.

"Everyone who played in the squad today played a role."

The Giants are now one of the form teams of the competition, having won six of the last seven matches.

Cameron said it's important to keep the momentum going.

"We sit in that group 4-8 (on the ladder). We know if we don't improve that 10 per cent as the weeks go on then we'll drop games and be scratching to make the eight, let alone be really, really good in finals footy."

While a long list of injuries has hurt the Giants, there is some light at the end of the tunnel.

Toby Greene and Brett Deledio are back in the side and have left the coach with plenty to look forward to in the remaining games of the home and away season.


"They take some time to get rolling. We're not going to see the best of Toby Greene for another two or three weeks - every week he's getting better," Cameron said.

"We clearly monitored Brett's game time today and I thought he had some really big moments, but every week he's going to get better and better and better."

Rising Star nominee Sam Taylor missed the Port match with a corked leg but is a chance of returning for next Saturday's twilight match against the Saints.

Ryan Griffen (hamstring) and Aidan Corr (groin) will also be assessed during the week.
