ADELAIDE'S search for a new coach won't end until early October, with AFL.com.au understanding the leading contender is still involved in the finals.

Reports of candidates have focused on two men still coaching teams playing off in preliminary finals this weekend; West Coast's Don Pyke and North Melbourne's Leigh Tudor.

Interim coach Scott Camporeale told the club he didn't want to continue on in the role this week in order to maintain a greater work/life balance.

Camporeale took over in the senior role following the death of Phil Walsh, winning seven of 11 games including the elimination final against the Western Bulldogs.

Crows CEO Andrew Fagan said the club hoped to announce Walsh and Camporeale's permanent replacement soon after the AFL Grand Final.

"We're really happy with where [the search for a new coach] is at," Fagan said.

"We've still got some discussions that we need to have, we're still on track to make a decision by the early part of October.

"Campo came to see me earlier this week to let me know that he didn't wish to be considered for the role."
