HARLEY Bennell's signing as a Melbourne footballer this week means there are three new members in the three-team club since last year's Telstra AFL Trade Period.

The former Docker and Sun joined the Demons via the pre-season supplemental selection period, as did ex-Bomber and Cat and now-teammate Mitch Brown.

Essendon used the same player movement mechanism to recruit Richmond's 2017 premiership hero Jacob Townsend, who was previously on Greater Western Sydney's list.

They follow the likes of Bradley Hill, Josh Bruce and Paddy Ryder into the 'club', and are among the 10 newest players to have been on three different AFL club lists.

Hill has gone from Hawthorn to Fremantle to now St Kilda, Ryder started at Essendon before going to Port Adelaide and joining Hill at Moorabbin, while Bruce has played at GWS, St Kilda and now the Western Bulldogs.

Andrew Phillips (GWS, Carlton, Essendon), Sam Frost (GWS, Melbourne, Hawthorn), Josh Walker (Geelong, Brisbane, North Melbourne) and Sam Jacobs (Carlton, Adelaide and GWS) will also have a fair array of club merchandise and uniforms by the time their careers are over.

Fremantle recruit James Aish, who is from South Australia, is possibly the most well-travelled of the three-club group, having started his career at Brisbane, playing at Collingwood in Victoria before heading west.

There's also a handful of players to have been on three lists but have not actually played an AFL game for all sides, with Michael Hartley (Collingwood), Josh Jenkins (Essendon) and Alex Keath (Gold Coast) failing to represent their original teams.
