FRIDAY night was a great result. We obviously didn't thinkit was going to be such a big margin, but we thought it was a pretty importantvictory.
We predicted a really close attacking match against Carlton.
The Blues were the second highest scoring team in thecompetition behind Geelong– and had kicked over 20 goals in rounds 10 and 11. If a team kicks that manygoals, it's obviously doing something right.
But the way the game eventuated, we won the balltremendously well through the middle of the ground and put Carlton under enormous physical pressure.
We were able to limit their inside 50s to 35, while weachieved our best record with 69 inside 50s.
It was difficult singling out just a few best players – itwas like junior footy where it was a ‘team effort’.
But Luke Hodge, who played his 100th match andcelebrated his birthday, was sensational, while Brad Sewell played probably thebest match I've seen him play – he didn't have a true run-with role.
It was also the best game I've seen Joel Smith play sinceI've been at Hawthorn.
Smith had 10 inside 50s and only played 68 per cent of thegame. He also kicked two goals, but he was back to playing his best footyagainst Carlton.
One of the key questions asked of us heading into our matchagainst Carltonwas who was going to kick the goals, considering ‘Buddy’ Franklin, MarkWilliams and Ben Dixon were all sidelined?
That trio topped our goalkicking last season.
I thought Jarryd Roughead's match was outstanding and hestood up in the absence of others. Although Jarryd may not have developed asquickly as Buddy, he's going to be a very good player for us.
Jarryd led strongly and had a genuine presence up forward. Hebooted some valuable goals early, despite missing some late in the match.
He could've kicked seven goals quite comfortably, althoughhis five majors were still a great effort.
Tim Boyle and Trent Croad were also tremendous performersfor us up forward, so on top of Hodge's four goals and Rick Ladson's threemajors from half-back, we had enough players to kick 27 goals.
Since day-one when ‘Clarko’ arrived, he has been on therecord as saying we've needed multiple options in attack, and hopefully we'restarting to achieve that.
In the ruck, Robbie Campbell and Simon Taylor again teamedvery well.
Now the players have a break before resuming for the secondhalf of the season.
Since the match, it's been business as usual for theplayers. We reviewed the game on Monday and on Tuesday the players have beenconducting clinics across Victoria.
The players will finish up on Wednesday and have Thursday, Fridayand the weekend off before coming back and getting ready for the Collingwoodgame.
